4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT FUN with this POORLY RENDERED game
The title says it all. Go around and bust up stuff.

I have an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, and they both love this game. I like it pretty good, too.

LACK OF STORY? No big deal. The real fun for these kiddies is running around and smashing stuff. (Although, the 5-year-old prefers to stay in the training ground, where he can smash...

The title says it all. Go around and bust up stuff.

I have an 8-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son, and they both love this game. I like it pretty good, too.

LACK OF STORY? No big deal. The real fun for these kiddies is running around and smashing stuff. (Although, the 5-year-old prefers to stay in the training ground, where he can smash stuff without police shooting guns and missiles at him).

MINI-GAMES. Inside the game are various "sub-missions," which are mini-games to play in order to earn points. They are separate from the main "plot" of saving Dr. Banner or getting the bad guy. These missions are fun (carry as many cars as possible to the top of a building within a specified time), sometimes silly (hold an inflated balloon character - thing Pillsbury Doughboy/Michelin Man - above your head, jump off a building, and hang-glide to a circle of flares), and sometimes nerve bending (protect a building from marauding tanks for two minutes).

FUN, SILLY FUN: The best way to summarize this game is to say that my kids were frequently laughing and giggling while playing this game. The violence is "cartoon violence," such as when Hulk can pick up a car, rip it in half, smash the halves into "steel boxing gloves," and then go around SUPER-smashing things with his "Steel Fists." Or, the soldiers' screams of "I can't feel my legs!" or "It's all over now!" when Hulk picks up a soldier and gets ready to smash, slam, or throw him. I am confident that most kids will understand that you're not supposed to do go around bustin' up stuff in real life the way Hulk does in this game.

WHO CARES ABOUT BAD GRAPHICS? The graphics are half-wit. Many objects are semi-transparent, in that you can see right through them. Also, many objects (including Hulkster himself) sometimes go right through other objects. For example, when running close to a building, you'll lose half of Hulk's body inside the wall, while the rest of him continues running down the sidewalk. Same with objects he is carrying. Another example: When fighting tanks, Hulk will sometimes pass right through them. But, if you are looking for a game that values fun over artistry (and my kids do), then it is a minor annoyance, and not much of a problem.

EASY TO LEARN TO PLAY. Perhaps the greatest thing about this game is its simplicity. Most commands are single-button commands, which means that little kids can do a decent job of executing the various moves. Try teaching a 5-year old how to press square-triangle-square, while holding down the R1 button, and you'll appreciate the "unsophistication" of this game.

Fun. Simple. Shallow. Entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rid yourself of pent-up aggression..., January 8, 2006

Just pop this bad-boy in your PS2 console and go to town. Personally, I am the type of guy who doesn't bode well with intricate, drawn-out storylines in video games. I don't typically have the time to complete every mission and finish the game. This is where Hulk appeals to me. While it has a Grand Theft Auto-style, mission-based storyline, it's FREE-ROAMING environment makes it a blast to play. I enjoy roaming the various environments with no real strategy and wreaking as much havoc as I possibly can. I would recommend this game for the following reasons: 1) it has exceptional "replayability" value; 2) for those who enjoy a linear storyline with side missions, this game satisfies that qualm; 3) it is ever-so-similar to the Grand Theft Auto series, which I happen to love; 4) the graphics, particularly the destruction frames and explosions, are splendid; 5) there are a plethora of moves to be garnered and mastered, all adding significant value to the unique gameplay; 6) the audio/sound is gripping; and 7) it's just plain fun to be essentially invincible, ripping through town and causing pandemonium. I applaud Marvel and Sierra for developing a highly-addictive and entertaining game. Kudos, guys. I only wish I had this type of gameplay when I was growing up. Please feel free to disagree with my opinion; let us compare opinions, invite a few more points of view, and debate, like the humans we are.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!!, October 26, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction (Video Game)
The easiest way I can describe this game is it is basically the Incredible Hulk's version of a family friendly Grand Theft Auto,(minus all the swearing, nudity, etc. that made the GTA games infamous), a bit of Need for Speed Underground in that you can complete missions and customize your Hulk's moves and attacks by adding more onto what he already knows, and a modernized version of the arcade classic Rampage all rolled into one.

I initially purchased this game for my nephew to play while he visits and being almost 30 years old myself I even have a blast playing it. Some of the moves do get a bit complex in that you have to combine various buttons to complete them, but if my 9 year old nephew can figure them out then I'm sure you will be able to also. =)

I have always been a role playing game fan myself and action based style games were never my thing, but after playing this game they will be in the future.

this game kicks ass! it is so freakin fun, 1 of the best games ive ever played. u can roam the city n go almost anywhere, jump like a 100 feet across the air, pick up and throw or slam almost anything from people 2 helicopters 2 cows n tons more. u also can make and use weapons, like rippin a car in half and makin metal boxing gloves or usin missile ammo n launchin it w/ ur hands. u can run around hella fast and even run across mountains and up buildings. u also earn points which u can use to buy new moves and combos. this game isnt really hard, u can either play it on easy or normal. the graphics, sound, controls and gameplay are all great. just go buy the game already, its really worth it!

This game is incredible. I am amazed at how much fun this is. The game play, control, and plot are well thought out and engaging. The really joy here is just the unabashed love of bashing. The PS2 graphics are not as good as the XBOX version, but still very enjoyable, and almost irrelevant as the game itself is so much fun. It's also great stress relief for 30 somethings...best game I've played in years.

i LOVE this game. who knew that so much destruction could be caused in 1 game! the boss battles are great, and challenging, but in a good way. this is a long game, so it will give you more 2 look forward to when u beat a level. u do not have to be a fan of the hulk to love this game. once again, this game is great!!!

As the big, green, wrecking machine you stomp around a city, destroying everything and completing missions in the hope of Bruce Banner FINALLY striking on the illusive cure for his curse.

Ultimate Destruction is fun! Absolutely anything is a target for the Hulk's insatiable thirst for carnage, from lampposts to skyscrapers. There's a fantastic array of upgrades to be added to the Hulk's arsenal that range from turning a car into a pair of boxing gloves to riding a bus like a skateboard and the enemies just keep getting bigger and bigger as the game progresses. Indeed, for your first hour of play, Ultimate Destruction seems like the most fun you've had with a computer game since Rampage first hit the Spectrum (or C64, for those who went that way).

Alas, there are only so many times you can bring down an attacking helecopter with an uprooted tree before the whole thing starts to get a bit samey. I never thought I'd tire of ripping the turret off a tank and battering a 60 ft mech with it, but I was wrong.

The problem with this game (aside from its lack of story) is there is so little variety. Yes, the list of upgrades is quite extensive, but once you've seen them all a couple of times, the thrill is gone. The city itself is also TINY. Gamers now being used to the grandure of San Andreas and Manhattan (in its various forms) will quickly tire of jumping around the same buildings over and over.

My advice to anyone is to RENT this game.

I bought this game for my five year old son for his birthday. He enjoys running around, smashing, and breaking things. It has held his attention pretty well, but the game lacks much of a theme or plot. If you just want to vent some hostility this game is for you, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly addictive, January 23, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction (Video Game)
This game is pretty damn fun. Simply put, you're the Incredible Hulk, running, jumping, and smashing everything and anything that gets in your way. It's the first game that really captures what it must be like to be the Hulk, a giant green powerhouse that wreaks havoc wherever he goes.

Gameplay is easy to learn. And as you smash more stuff and go farther in the story, you earn more moves but also have to face tougher opponents, thus keeping things interesting. There's a storyline that basically involves various "HULK SMASH" missions with a little bit of strategy, too.

The coolest aspect to me is that the Hulk can actually fight his way out of trouble. When the military sends its highest forces after you, if you beat them, the alert level falls all the way back to zero. That's very unique and oh-so-satisfying.

Personally, I didn't care much for the side missions. They're generally silly and not all that exciting. Also, it kind of bothered me that Bruce Banner is trying to find a way to rid himself of the Hulk so that people will be safe, but doesn't mind unleashing the Hulk to try and find his cure. I know I'm overthinking it, but after flattening a few dozen innocent bystanders, I felt just a wee bit of guilty. But it's just a game, so it was just virtual guilt anyway.

So I say go ahead and Hulk out. Just let Banner deal with the guilty conscience.
