This review is from: The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast (Paperback)
The Incredible Hulk was my favourite marvel superhero ever since I was a kid ,that is why I purchased this book because I had hoped that it would bring me back to the childhood days of yesteryears, boy did I got more than what I bargained for!!I was stuck with the savage Hulk when last I read about him ,and when I read this book....it took me to new planes of where the Hulk is now,his multiple personality disorder and his temporary cure by Dr Leonard Samson,His relationship with Betty Thunderbolt Ross, the miraculous cure of the Hulks transformation dilemma was really a cool twist in this book ,and most of all,The Hulks/Bruce Banners sons!!!!!I shouldn't say anything more!this book kept me at the edge of my seat and made me beg for more.If you're a fan of the Hulk, this is an epic,if you're not a fan ,you'll become a fan !!!!!!

As a Hulk fan for 22 of my 29 years on Earth, I can honestly say that Peter David is the best Hulk writer ever. His book "What Savage Beast" is the perfect example that confirms this. I read this book in three days and plan on buying a copy for everyone I know that not only likes science fiction books, but well-written books in general. A masterpiece!

Who is the Savage Beast?,

This review is from: The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast (Paperback)
This book is a well put together book. The book holds on to you and never lets you go. It start out as the Hulk and his wife hidding away from the world which is out to destory them. This book puts a human side to the Hulk that that i never thought he had. In the book you see that the Hulk is just like you and me. He has problem and can't fixs them with his powers but has to work them out. This book also showed a side of betty (Hulk's wife) that you never think of. She is not a woman who just stands by her man and nothing more. She has douts, fears and demans. At times it's hard to read what the both of them when and are going thourh. The book also shows us the only real beast in the book is not the Hulk but the people who only meaning in life is to end the Hulk's life

VERY READABLE BUT RUSHED,

This review is from: The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast (Paperback)
As a 35 year old comic book fan who has been reading comics for 31 of my years, it is a sincere compliment to Peter David, for me to name him as one of my two favorite comic writers. The other is Alan Moore. You're in good company Peter.
I purchased this paperback on the strength of Mr. David's name. I was not dissapointed. Well, Then again maybe I was a little. While the story and characterization were up to what I expect from him, I felt that the story became a little rushed about halfway through the book. Being the regular scripter on the Hulk comic book, no one has a better grasp of the Hulk's supporting cast than Peter David. Most of my favorites were in this book and very deftly handled. The story flowed well for one that had to be written with the restrictions of being able to fit into the current comic continuity without altering the same.
My one complaint is that I think that Peter David is spreading himself a little thin these days, and it showed in this book. It appeared to me that about half way through he became a little hurried in his story telling. The story became a somewhat weaker because of this. While he still managed to pull of a good ending this is due to his skills as a plotter not to the storytelling abilities he displayed here.
Peter, I am a great admirer of your work but I would love to see a little less of it, if that allows you to bring your writing up to the level I have come to expect from you. This was a good read but it could have and should have been better. Tim Drinnon Morristown T

Hulk Smashing!,

If all you know about the Hulk is what you saw on TV - on any of the cartoons or on the old Bill Bixby show - forget everything and start over here. Peter David, who reinvented the Hulk for Marvel Comics prior to writing this book, crafts a heartwrenching story about a man cursed to see his own worst angel in the mirror every day, the owman who loves him, and the evil that may lurk within both his mind and his DNA.If you've read PAD's Trek novels, try this. It's even better than those, as he takes a character he has made his own and makes him incredible. And after this, you'll never thing of the Hulk and Lou Ferrigno in the same sentence again.

A little bit longer than some other books like this, so perhaps slightly more complex. This is a just post Pantheon Hulk, stuck in reverse, intelligent and green, or mindless savage and human.
A younger relative Major Talbot reforms the Hulkbusters and fails, the Banners are forced to move a couple of times. Betty gets pregnant. Siamese twins, enter Dr Strange in a complicated surgical procedure to try and save them. Enter the Maestro, taking one son. The Hulk follows through the Crossroads and dimensions, to track him down. A planet with a stuffed Rick Jones, and an elite unit of Hulks, including WolvaDeathlok Hulk, Thing Hulk and Elric Hulk. The Hulk's son is now a grown half-Hulk, too. In a nasty twist, the name of this unit is also the Hulkbusters. All in all, one of those crazy Hulk stories with the lot, tragedy, Hulkbusting and bashing. The Hulk and Major Talbot discuss Les Miserables, and Banner and his son have an argument about Nietzsche! Didn't see those coming. Something here for everyone almost, and really, a 3.75 I'd say.

Peter David writing the Hulk.....what more can one ask for?,
This review is from: The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast (Paperback)
I've been a fan of the Hulk for almost two decades now, so I was very excited when I first heard he would be featured in a full-length book.
Having been ousted by his former Pantheon teammates, the Hulk is left with only one alternative: to keep a low-profile and try to lead a normal life with his beautiful and understanding wife, Betty. However, things have never been that simple for the Hulk, and soon he must deal with an endless array of obstacles including a single-minded army major, an unexpected pregnancy, and a bizarre new series of transformations. Peter David, a magnificent writer of both comic books and novels, manages to blend the two distinct mediums together and produce a story that has an instant all-around appeal. The first chapter tells new readers everything they need to know, most notably how the Hulk changed from a raging child-like brute to an intelligent and self-confident genius. David's descriptions of the characters and their surroundings are expressed with such vivid detail that it's easy to picture the workings of each scene in our minds. From a mundane suburban apartment to a mysterious otherworldly dimension, everything is always perfectly clear. Also featuring illustrations by renowned comic book artist George Perez (Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect, Avengers/JLA), What Savage Beast is an action-packed, emotionally-gripping tale that more than lives up to its reputation. Strongest one there is!

because it's a great book.the hulk battles maestro for his kidnapped son (who is freakishly born). all in all, it's a great book. all except for 1 flaw. the hulk battles a mysterious robot, defeats it, and that's that. never hear of the robot again. but it's still a good book. read it. that's all i have to say.
