You might end up making one for yourself,
This review is from: Incredible Quilts for Kids of All Ages (Needlework & Quilting) (Paperback)
This book contains some wonderful patterns for quilts for kids (and you might end up making one for your inner child, too). There are fishes, snakes, geese and pigs; a princess and a dog nap quilt; samplers with farm animals, clowns and faces that can be individualized. I have made a quilt with the brothers and sisters pattern and it was a lot of fun to play with the different fabrics for the dresses, stockings, shirts etc. It is not a quilt for a beginner, but not that difficult to sew either. The wonderful color photos that are included always make me itch to try another pattern.

Not just for quilters!,

This book is a good addition to my library. As an elementary art teacher, I am always looking for ideas to add to my lesson plan resources. Even when the students are just making quilt squares out of paper, this book was useful. The color pictures, and easy to follow steps, can give even a very meticulous planner, some extra help!

bright and bold quilt patterns,

This review is from: Incredible quilts for kids of all ages (Paperback)
Very bright and bold but with precise instructions for varying shapes and sizes of beadspreads, and incredibly simplistic.
15 quilts with a flat photograph of each displayed, and full-size templates for ease of copying. The patterns cover fish, snakes, princesses, clowns and more - and taste comes into play. Nothing tonal or subdued here, all is bright primaries and contrasting fluroescent colours. Depending on taste, it could appeal. The simple block patterns are easy enough to employ if you would like to start a child making one of these quilts, perhaps in the classroom. All instructions are very detailed and concisely explained. I wasn't particularly drawn to the quilts myself for my child, but perhaps others are and will be. Recommend library borrowing before purchasing this book, that one might not be disappointed. Happy Quilting! kotori ojadis@yahoo.com

If you're looking for an original quilt pattern that features creatures in lively colors, this book is for you. There's plenty of inspiration to get you going from scraps you already have in your stash, or you can follow Jean Ray Laury's detailed instructions and materials lists. Along with scaley and four-legged critters, there are several designs featuring big and little people, and ways to make appliqued faces of your favorite relatives and fantasy friends. There are options included for piecing designs and also for appliqued motifs.
Depending on your level of experience, confidence, patience, and also the size you decide to make your quilt, these designs may frustrate a beginning quilter, as there are several bits and pieces to be combined to make each block. The two "Nap Pad" patterns might be a good choice for those just starting out. Making quilts for kids is really a labor of love, and perhaps getting in touch with the kid in ourselves, as well. |
