First Impression: Well the kind people over at Fat Cat inc. sent me a rainbow trout! I personally had never seen one before, so Dad had to explain it to me. Fascinating! I think the reason I like it so much is because bears eat them, and of course I want to be just like a bear. Dad gave me two new toys last night, and this one won out! Dad was actually surprised. For some reason I really like to chew on this fish, and throw it around. Sometimes I just like to hit Dad with it. It says that they have tested it to withstand a half a ton of "yank testing." Dad says that there is not enough for him to hold onto for it to be a good tug-a-war toy - I can pull it away from him pretty easily. Doesn't matter to me, I'm really like this catch!

Conclusion: So far I haven't damaged the fish at all! I would like it a little bit more if there were 2 or 3 squeakers in it. One squeaker seems to be difficult to find. Also if they spent all that time making it withstand a half a ton of "yankin", they may want to make it easier for humans to hold onto. Overall it's very entertaining for me!

Follow up: After 2 nights of playing I've partially torn one of the fins off and there is stuffing in there that I'm going to start pulling out soon. Also I've torn a good "L" in the side of the fish. I can see the "strapping" inside that is supposed to make the toy strong. Not much they can do to protect the fabric. I'll post more when it's completely destroyed.

Follow up #2: After about 30 more minutes I ripped the nose off of the trout. As soon as Dad saw me pulling stuffing out he trashed the fish... Guess it's bad for puppies to eat. Darn! Fun while it lasted, but it only lasted 3 days...

We bought two Doggy Hoots Strapping Yankers toys, the Alligator and Snake, for our dog Sarah back in 2004 and they have been her favorite toys ever since. She plays with them every single day and they are only now just beginning to show signs of wear and tear, so I think 4 years lifespan on a dog toy is amazing. Every other toy we've bought her has been destroyed or had a hole ripped in it within minutes, but these toys are tough, and she loves them! So, having had great difficulty finding them in any local stores we ended up ordering the set of three - Alligator, Snake and Trout, from SeaCorals.com through Amazon. The shipping was quick, although we had to wait an extra couple of weeks for the Trout as it was out of stock. But Sarah now has three brand new toys and she's happy as a sandbag. :)

This is the second fat cat fish I bought, only because my dog lost her first one in the lake. I have a yellow lab who loves this toy. He never puts it down. This toy also seems indistructable because the other dogs tug at it and there are no rips or stuffing comming out.

My boxer absolutely loves this fish. He's had several over the last couple of years and although it's not perfect, it's more durable than any other toy that I've tried. He de-fins and de-tails it pretty quickly, but he sure does love whipping it around. Sometimes, it becomes flying fish! The only caveat is that after it gets kind of hairy (the meshing starts to unwind) you have to watch out for the infamous "poop-on-a-string" syndrome. Sometimes, they just don't want to let go!

Our Boston Terrier has destroyed every other soft toy we've bought for him - max lifespan is usually 40 minutes or so before the toy is destuffed, shredded, and lying all over our family room. This Rainbow Trout by Fat Cat, Inc. lasted an incredible six (6!) weeks. It was his primary toy for the entire time and held up to his rigourous chewing, shaking, and tugging. This is THE toy for any bully breed or larger dog that is tough on their toys.

My dogs love this water toy. My dog sleeps with it, guards it and loves to play with his "fish." It has proven to be strong and tough enough for our Rottweilers.

60lb boxer loves this toy. She likes to concentrate her chewing on the tail and it's getting frayed already. She just got it for Christmas.

When the product arrived (for a Christmas present), it seemed very strong and made of good quality material---but when my Golden gets a new toy, she will play with it for the whole night and it never leaves her side. She ended up chewing and pulling at the fins of the trout and formed small holes on the first day. It is now January 5th and we had to take it away from her because she pulled the first bit of stuffing out from it last night. I think if the trout had no fins, it wouldn't have been a problem and there would be nothing distracting for her to yank at or chew on. I gave 3 stars since it did provide a couple weeks of fun at least.

I have bought this toy 7 times now. The first time was for two big labs and they still have it after two years. The last Six was for Hendo. But He loves this fish, the canvas material makes it last longer than normal toys but it still has it's weak spots. The fins are the first to go but the enjoyment it worth it. I wouldn't keep buying it if it wasn't the best, I just wish they could create a even stronger version.

Scout, a 10 year old Golden, loved this thing from the moment it came out of the box. The only other thing he sleeps with under his chin are my shoes. He plays rough with his toys, but this one seems to be indestructible. Definitely recommended for larger dogs.
