Rise of the Underminer: Wish there was a film.,
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer (PC & Mac) (CD-ROM)
This game is very fun. Playing as Frozone makes it ten times more fun than if you could only play as Mr. I. The environments are fun and the robots are comical, but the boss levels are easier than they should be. It's made more for windows than mac and runs better on laptops, but it's quite addicting, but short. Rats. But the Nuts and Bolts levels are fun. I wish that Pixar had made a film.

The game crashes and repeatedly reboots my computer after the very first credits screen comes up before the main menu. My system more than supports this game as I have a P4 2.8ghz processor, an ATI X800, 1gb ram etc etc. They have no support for this game either and I have had a very hard time being patient with the techs I get on the phone. All of my drivers are updated as well so I don't know what can be causing the problem. Also, every other game I have purchased in the past year has worked just fine on this PC. Anyway, unless you're prepared for long phonecalls with no results from a crappy tech support team don't buy this game.

Do not buy this game unless you are SURE that your computer will support it. It will require several upgrades before we can even try it. If you are not a computer wiz, which I am not, get something else. Also, on the package it says it's for 10+, which is different from the 6+ listed on the ad.

My Kids Love this Game,

We bought this game for our kids (ages 10 and 8) for Christmas... my son (8) especially loves this game. So for at least the first 3 weeks, this game was well worth the money. It is action packed but not too violent and all the kids enjoy playing what they consider a sequel to the movie. (my 4 year old likes to watch the game)

Had no issues installing it on 2 different machines, one older and one newer. Standard USB gamepad worked right out of the box. Looks great using a high end video card I bought 3 years ago so I would figure any Video card bought today would support this game well.
My son has been playing it off and on since he was 6, he is 8 now and loves it. Its challenging and not overly complicated. The levels are well designed and stretched out to good intervals, maybe a little short, for kids its fine. Definetly not an adult game, unless you enjoy relentless punch em' up activity. Its fairly harmless for kids, our heroes beating the crap out of villainous robots mostly, Frozone doing his freeze thing, which is fun. Very much like the movie, perhaps even less violent. I would say , for $15-20, this is a decent game that your young son will enjoy. As long as you have a machine that was built in the past 4 years, you shouldnt have any technical issues.

This is not a perfect game. The main flaw is that it is a short game. Some would say the other flaws are that the solo game is meh and that the game is too easy. This is probably coming from 30 year old men. kids will love this. It is light, and very fun. The action puzzles aren't too hard to figure out. THe game actually lets you play with two players at once throughout the entire game. This is perfect for siblings. Not unlike lego star wars for two players. Mr. Fantastic is by far more fun to play, but playing as Frozone ain't to shabby. Bottom Line: If you are looking for a fast paced great two-player game. THis is it. Buy it Now.

As mentioned by others, highlights include being able to play as Frozone and the two-player cooperative mode. Down side: it's too easy and too short.
Contrary to other reviewers, I have not had any trouble with the game crashing, although I'm using a Mac. Nor have I had significant trouble using two gamepads simultaneously in cooperative mode. I have had to reconfigure gamepads a few times, but once detected by the game and configured, they work flawlessly. Try plugging them in before running the game.

most unfriendly to setup pc game I loaded this year,

I have played alot of pc games over the years. I am very familiar withthe ability to customize controls for these games to best suit personal style. This game has exactly 0 ability to use the mouse or gamepads... a very frustrating and dissapointing limitation. The mobility of the charachters is also very archaic and limited as well. I was hoping to use the advertised 2 player capability to let both my kids play at the same time - the only way this is possible is to have them both using the keyboard at the same time - and they are 4 1\2 and 6 yrs old, so guess how easy that is? Not gonna happen. In hindsight, I wish I had not bought this game. Bummer.
P.S. I rated 3 for fun because to be honest my oldest son still likes to play it... but he has LOTS of requests for help, FYI.

Multi-player Bunk,
By

No Gamepads work. The instruction book says there is a controller setup under Options but it does not exist. When you look at Player 2 under Options the Gamepad appears programmed for play and appears functional , but then fails to operate when you start the game. The only multi-player action possible is with 2 people on the Keyboard. What a joke! There are no patches anywhere and apparently no fix in the works. The maker does not publicly acknowledge any problem. I have 20+ years as a computer builder, user, and gamer and this is pure bunk (spelled crap).

WARNING! BUYER BEWARE!,

BUYER BEWARE!... COMPLETE System Requirements are NOT listed ANYWHERE on the web page and are only listed in TINY letters on the bottom of the packaging, but they are as follows for PCs:
* Windows 98 and above EXCEPT for Windows NT * DirectX 9 and above * Pentium III 800mhz processor or better * GeForce2/ATI 7500 with at least 32MB of VRAM * PC Audio solution containing Dolby Digital Live required for Dolby Digital Audio * 256MB of RAM * Mouse and Keyboard For Mac systems, the requirements are: * Mac OSX 10.2.8 and above * G4 800Mhz processor * GeForce2/ATI 7500 with at least 32MB of VRAM * 256MB of RAM * Mouse and Keyboard I would like to say that we enjoyed this game, but my daughter was VERY dissappointed when she couldn't play the game that Santa gave her! I had LOTS of fun trying to take the blame while also explaining how SANTA messed up! (I said that it was MY fault since I recommended it as a gift idea for her, Santa probably assumed that I had checked with Daddy -- which I had! -- and that it would work.) Daddy is a LAN Technician, so fixing computer problems is not usually a hassle, AND we have lots of computers around the house with some VERY high-end hardware. STILL, WE COULD NOT GET IT TO WORK! Apparently, the Elves work off of the latest and greatest tech up north, and WE now have to upgrade our hardware... Just be careful to check your RAM, VRAM, software versions, and EVERYTHING before buying this game. Good luck! Anne in Illinois |
