This book is a keeper. I read it in eBook format, and knew I'd want to share it with friends, so when it became available in print, I bought two more. Why two? There is no way I'd give up my personal copy. When I say keeper I really mean it. This way I have a paperback to share, one to keep, and an eBook to enjoy as well. I believe the highest compliment one can pay an author is to purchase his or her book.
This one is so good I bought it three times.
The world of Ms Jones is full and vivid. There is depth to each character, whether main or supporting. Their motivation, conflict, desire, hunger, fear, love... all are on tantalizing display.
Janet Elizabeth Jones writes a feast of words. Consider this opening of the short prologue: "Alone. Neither dead nor alive. But it was better than the pain." And in chapter one: "Caroline drank down the deluge of emotions around her, soaked up the haggard feelings like gravy. Serene and resolved, she ignored the contorting shadows in her cabin, the dance of darkness with his coy mistress, light."
Meical and Caroline fit together as perfectly as the words in the quote above, and it defines their personalities and hearts. Meical is a dance of darkness, and Caroline is his coy mistress, light. From the powerful opening to the satisfying end, Incubus is brilliant, unforgettable, and a joy to read.
