This review is from: Yes Indeed/Fabulous Hits of Dinah Shore (2 CD's on 1) (Audio CD)
This double album CD is a sumptious showcase for Shore's vibrato-rich Tennessee twang. Nelson Riddle conducts on the first album, which includes Shore's definitive version of Sentimental Journey. The second album, conducted and arranged by Dick Reynolds, is Shore's hits rerecorded. It's good stuff, 'specially Buttons and Bows. Great listening, great buy

Capital work on Capitol, April 20, 2004

This review is from: Yes Indeed/Fabulous Hits of Dinah Shore (2 CD's on 1) (Audio CD)
After years of her languishing at RCA, which seems to have known nothing about the pop LP form, good ole Frank Sinatra persuded Dinah Shore to move to Capitol, where she got the royal treatment. Her debut "Dinah, Yes Indeed!," arranged by Nelson Riddle (!) with an inventive song list and presentation and socko cover, become a big hit. Capitol knew how to present artists at their best and knew that Dinah the T.V. star did not translate effectively as Dinah the recording artist. The lady on Capitol is much more jazz-influenced, deeper and out there than the video kiss-thrower. "Dinah, Yes Indeed!" is admirable from start to finish. "The Fabulous Favorites" was to have started a series of by-request LPs but that idea never become reality. It's a greatest hits collection of excellent rerecordings with Dinah clearly enjoying herself and not just imitating the original recordings. Totally enjoyable listening start to finish.
