5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, great price! June 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I wasn't going to write a review until I read the publishers note at the end of the book. Their philosophy of publishing ebooks at an ebook price is brilliant! Indentured is a quick paced, short novella. To a seasoned speculative fiction reader Indentured is a bit formulaic, predictable, and underdeveloped. The novella is perhaps a bit too short and too quickly paced, as the story seems to proceed at a rate much like that of a flip book. The overall effect is that of having skimmed through a much longer novel in too short a time. That said, the story was engaging, I want to know what happens next, and I am going to purchase the next novella in the series. What more can a person ask from a story? Best $.99 I've ever spent on Amazon.

This is a short, and fun, little novella that will get you thinking of the "what if" moments if the technology were real: in this case, what would really be the case if you woke up as a cloned human and your memories are of yesterday being in reality a couple of hundred years in the past?

The author does a good job of sucking you into the moment and feeling as if you are the main character. The technology and scenarios are realistic enough for this sci fi fan and, if you like a good storyteller Mr. McElhaney knows how to do it. At 99 cents, this one is a bargain and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars When mystery and sci-fi meet July 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Indentured is one of those books that grips you from the very beginning and does not let go. In fact, the more you read, the more interesting it gets. I felt that it successfully mixed sci-fi with elements of mystery and thriller. The book is about a group of people from the 21st century who wake up on a spaceship many years into the future in bodies which do not belong to them and with no idea how they got there and what is needed of them from the crew of the ship. They are just told to obey, and whenever any one of them defects, they get severely punished. The story provided good twists along the way and kept going at a very nice, fast pace. Overall a great read and I am curious to know where it leads from here, so I am definitely going to check out further installments in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start...
Not really a bad book. More like a "direct to DVD" type of story. I'll buy the rest of the series because sometimes I like a little D2DVD in my diet. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Abrupt ending leaves a lot to be desired
I gave his book a try because it was self published. First part was actually very good, not great, but very good. The last 2 chapters unravelled all of the first.

3.0 out of 5 stars Was well written, but not quite what I like.
I thought this would be a good book, but I tend to military sci fi. I just couldn't quite get into it.

oddly enough, I recommend pulling up that Starcraft video game and looking for the image on this cover anywhere. I think the person posting this discussion is on crack, or he just doesn't know his video games. The good thing is, this image is on all of McElhaney's books, so no one can say... Read more
