2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, April 10, 2008

This review is from: Independent Reading Activities That Keep Kids Learning. . . While You Teach Small Groups (Grades 3-6) (Paperback)
My impression of this book was that I could, more or less, just copy the pages and put some basic materials together. However, I have to make sure that I have the right poetry, historical fiction, etc. books in order for students to complete the activities. Many of the suggested books are too long for students to do during centers and others are not at my students' interest and/or reading level.

This book definitely has some good activities for students to work on but the huge drawback is that there is a very long list of books that are needed in order for students to complete many of the activities. Most of the activities that do not require specific books are things teachers already have access to anyway (i.e. Creating a Story Chart). Bummer.

This book is full of literacy center menus to use with any fiction or nonfiction books. You can easily change these menus to fit the books that you already have available in your classroom. My students love these literacy centers!
