I use this book every day in a multi level classroom. The book is available on a shelf and the students can choose a response and then walk themselves through to the finished project, following the clearly written instructions. It has increased my student's interest in reading, and has helped pre-literate students respond to literature. The grades that have used it are from K - 5. I hope that Ms. Witmer will do a follow up book that will be as interesting to upper elementary students.

The activities in this book, for the most part, require students to respond in a manner that demonstrates their comprehension of the story. I am using these activities to supplement my reading curriculum as well as for reading response activities (instead of formal book reports). The examples shown in the book are geared towards primary students but the activites themselves can be used/modified for intermediate students easily.

I was glad to see a book like this. All you have to do is copy and off you go!! I haven't started using the activities, but I plan to use them with our AR program at school. I think these activities will help the students really take the time to read the book and respond to it, rather than just read for the test. If you are looking for a good reading activities book, this is your book!!

I love this book. Its a great tool for visual learners. Its just what the title said it was "INSTANT" independent reading response activities. They were easy for the students to understand, but not too easy, They actually had to think about what they read.

Wow! Where were these five years ago? In my sixth year of teaching, I noted this collection. Awesome helper for reading groups. Very flexible tasks. REALLY beats creating reading follow-up tasks myself. Timesaver; worksaver!

I teach English-based activities in an after school program and I just created a 12-week syllabus using this book only. We will do one of the activities as a group, week by week. It's wonderful fun and the fact that the activities can apply to any book or story make it all the more useful in a group setting.

Is there something just like it for young writers?
