About the Author

Amy Pixton, a mother of triplets, created Indestructibles after bits of traditional board books found their way into her babies' mouths.  Amy lives in Kansas City with her husband and their three children.

Kaaren Pixton has been making art with children for many years. Kaaren’s studio is at her home in West Linn where she lives with her husband, one dog, five chickens, goldfish in a pond and countless grandchildren romping in the gardens.

Plip-Plop Pond has lovely water color-like illustrations of various pond creatures. I like the style of the artist, who appears to also be the creator of this series of Indestructible books along with her daughter-in-law. (Side note: The daughter-in-law is the mother of triplets and must understand that innate need that babies have to want to destroy pages of paper). I own five books from the series and will cut and paste a similar review for all five of them on Amazon. I started out with two books and immediately bought three more and my 5.5 month old baby has been using and enjoying these books since about 4 months old. I let my baby hold the book and explore it on his own and I don't do much beyond pointing to something on the page and saying, "That's a fish!" or something similar. My baby doesn't constantly want to hear a 20 page story, he just wants to hear my voice while he joyfully attempts to rip up the book.

Besides being a new mom, I'm also a librarian; formerly a Children's Librarian although now I work with adults. In any case, I'm aware of the importance of introducing the concept of books early on to get little ones prepared for reading one day and to teach them that books are enjoyable. For babies, that means getting them used to feeling a book (sometimes tasting, it can be hard to get them not to do that and it's how they explore), holding it and encouraging them to look at the pictures. I completely understand the criticisms that some of the users have for the fact that these books are wordless, thus preventing the chance to make word associations and the like. But these books are just plain fun and beautiful to look at and true to their claim, absolutely indestructible, which is all I can ask for in a book for my infant.

Ordered a bunch of these. They arrived quickly, within the week, in great condition. My baby loves them. She chews on them every day. I put one through the washer and dryer and it still looks great. She even "reads" them during diaper changes. Love this item!

The pictures are pretty fun, and I think the fact that there are no words is a feature, not a flaw. My one year old daughter hasn't managed to destroy it, but the pages do wrinkle and stay wrinkled. Imagine a piece of paper balled up tightly, and then attempt to flatten it out. That's what all the pages look like now.

This has been through two babies and it's still intact and in as good a shape as I could have hoped for. It was a great starter for flipping through books, and it was fun to make up stories while they played with it.

my son "eats" everything, but after months of play this book is still unharmed! We have 4 of them and he just loves them!

We have this and three other titles. Our son is now one year old, and has had these since he was seven months old. He loves them! He loves looking at the pictures, and though it is thankfully less and less, he still likes putting them in his mouth. He has crumpled them, drooled on them, chewed them, and probably tried to rip them to pieces, but so far there are no tears at all. They are a bit wrinkled after so much abuse, but that is not an issue for us. There are no words, so you can make up your own stories, or just name the animals - each page has enough detail other than the focus animal that it is easy to come up with stories. The pictures are beautiful too - not cheap looking at all.

Books are very cute but what they don't tell you is that they wrinkle so badly that after baby plays you have to put it under heavy books to try and straighten it out. I bought 6 different books. Had I known I would have bought one.

I thought that this would be a good choice for my son, 8 months old. He's really into destroying magazines these days. This book has the feel of paper so I thought it would be a good safe substitute for magazines. My son is doing his best to destroy this book but so far, it has held up well. We've had this book for about a month now. It's no longer flat--it's crinkled from the constant abuse. My son seems to love it! There are no words in any of the Indestructible books--this one is just a picture book that follows a frog through a pond, meeting other animals. We really like this book and have already bought another one as a Christmas gift.
