Vital work,
By James D. Crabtree "Doc Crabtree" (Fort Leavenworth, Kansas) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: India Britannica: A VIVID INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORY OF B (Paperback)
Moorehouse has done a great job with this book, which paints a portrait of India when it was ruled by the British. This book discusses the history of Britain's involvment on the subcontinent, beginning with the founding of the East India Company and ending with independence. Along the way we see the commercial enterprise evolve into a colonial administration, we find the British taking an interest in India's culture, its languages, its flora and fauna. British investment in India's infrastructure not only expanded its economy but changed the social landscape of the country. The administrative and judicial systems the British installed allowed India to transition successfully (more or less) to independence,
Written from many first-hand accounts as well as other references this book is a great resource for anyone wanting to get a good handle on this part of British and Indian history. |
