5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent May 9, 2011

I searched and searched for natural food coloring. I was wary of this one, because it had some bad reviews on another listing on Amazon. I decided to get it anyways, and couldn't be more happy with it!

The yellow was kind of seperated when I got it, so I just shook it up really well. I was able to get gorgeous, rich colors. I will definately be buying this again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfactory October 29, 2007
I found these food colors to perform very well! I have used these natural colors in many types of icing for cake decorating. Noone notices any difference, as long as I remember a few simple rules for their use. *** Begin with just a few drops, and stir thoroughly before deciding you need to add more. *** They color white pure shortenings, such as organic palm shortening or Crisco, brighter and clearer than icings containing much yellow butter. Royal and egg white icings are fine. Candies tint great. *** Do not expect to achieve harsh artificial colors such as hot pink or lime green! But contrary to popular use at cheap supermarket bakeries, those bold and brash colors should not be combined on a cake at any rate. *** There are such amazing subtle colors possible, experiment to find them all! *** The only limitations I have found MAY be in a pinkish-lavender or a light spring green. In these cases, if I MUST have the specific color, I use the India Tree colors, and add just a very small amount of traditional blue or green. (I have not yet tried tinting cake batter, so I do not know how the colors will 'cook'.)
No, these colors do not behave exactly like the conventional artificial food colors. BUT, if you are looking for an alternative to Red #40, Yellow #5, and Blue #5... your priorities will be health, safety, and a confidence that YOU CAN EAT A RED FROSTING ROSE!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for natural dye. January 3, 2012
The dye is not bad. You are never going to get a brillant red with natural dye. You need to play with the dye to get the color you want. The blue is a little gray. However, you can work with it to get somehing close to what you want. If your child has allergies or reactions to traditional dyes you will think this is awesome. I do!!

I appreciate that getting blue, with natural vegetable colors, is hard, but for the price this commands, I was hoping for better results. As a matter of fact, I got a better yellow and red myself, in my own kitchen, than this product produces. The "blue" isn't worth mentioning...a weird pale grayish color is more like what it produces. I have also failed at producing a true blue natural food coloring in my own kitchen, or at least one that didn't turn grayish within 24 hours. Perhaps that's the best that can be done without artificial dyes.

But for the price, I had hoped they had done better than I could with my own materials and abilities, and I was disappointed. Happily, I made my own brilliant yellow and pink/red sugar with other materials, but as for blue, all the suggestions online also come up with something pale, greenish or greyish, and disappointing. The good news is, the classic color for icing or frosting, is white. That's why they call it icing, and frosting. It's supposed to be white. With my own colors (or this product, to be fair) I can get pastel pink icing, or pastel yellow. Blue isn't really so necessary. But this was not a good deal for what it cost. Perhaps it was too old, and the colors had faded? THey were not anything like the circle of colors shown in the picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the natural dyes September 2, 2007
By Jessie
I have used a couple different natural dyes and this one has the best concentration and color retention. With any natural dye you can not expect vivid color and, because some colors will impart an odd taste, they must be used with caution. For those of us who are unable to use other food colorings, these dyes add a nice touch to birthday cakes and holiday cookies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading colors February 18, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase
I would have rated this item zero stars, except that I like the fact that it is a natural dye and there are no other other option out there for purchase. The blue is NOT blue...it is more like green. And you cannot make blue!!! Huge disappointment in this product, especially considering how expensive it is. Also, you have to use a lot of the red to make red or any of the pink colors. Hope the company will improve this product. So disappointed!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep it Natural! December 10, 2012

My kids and I can't have artificial colors, so we are so grateful to have this option for our cakes and cookies. (White gets boring after a while!)

1.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, poor execution May 27, 2007
By Lila
I've been searching for natural food coloring and thought I found a winner.

I will keep looking because this product is awful!

The taste and odor alone prevent me from using in baking. In addition, even if the smell and awful taste weren't

an issue, the colors arrived without a how to use & mix guide. This is a neccessity.

A big and expensive disappointment.
