4.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Guide to US-India, May 3, 2009

This review is from: India and The United States: Estranged Democracies 1941 - 1991 (Paperback)
By putting the history of Indo-US relations in chronological order, Kux provides an invaluable overview of the relationship over time. Never flashy, never verbose, his account is of great benefit in trying to understand why democratic India and the US had such difficulty in coming together as partners on the international scene during the Cold War. Now that the two countries have become much closer, it's very much worth reviewing why it took them so long and what conflicts are still inherent in the relationship. The book covers the period through 1993 and it would be a huge benefit if the author would issue a revised edition covering 1993-2008, the key years in establishing the new relationship. Until then, this book is the best overview available.
