I bought this book because I enjoyed the author's previous book, "Essentials of Vedic Astrology", a beginner's book which I would recommend without hesitation. This book, however, is a slick, glossy presentation that focuses mainly on the nakshatras (108 of its 144 pages), but is somewhat misleading in that they are equated with western sun signs ONLY, while in "Indian" astrology, the nakshatras are usually applied to the Moon, or the lagna (Ascendant)before the sun. Aside from being appalled that the author would actually present the sun's nakshatra as being the primary determinant of one's personality (this is not done in her previous work), I found the information on the nakshatras themselves fairly good, if limited. Each nakshatra gets 4 pages, and the format for each one is the same: the first page includes the symbol, the meaning and mythology, and a list of other information inlcuding the principal stars, color, ruler, etc. The 2nd page has a picture (1/4 of the page), and 4 short paragraphs -- one each about the ruling deities, the aim, the guna and dosha. The 3rd page's main section is "Characteristics/personality traits" (about 3 paragraphs), and two short sections, "How it links with the western sun sign and ruler" and "Spiritual life path" (one short paragraph each). The 4th page is about relationships and compatibility, including suitable and unsuitable sexual partners. Don't let this be your only book on "Indian astrology" -- or think that its contents are more than a slim, superficial slice of what it's about.

Use Indian based astrology to uncover the secrets of a Vedic star sign with the aid of this book, which includes spiritual insights from other Indian traditions including yoga. Indian Astrology explains differences between Western astrology and Vedic mysticism and does an excellent job of providing charts and accompanying details illustrating Indian history and spiritual traditions in the realm of astrological research.

This was a great book to help me understand the Vedic or Indian astrology which I find to be better than the one we typically use in the US.

I highly recommend this book.

Very easy to read and understand. Indian Astrology seems to be more accurate in it's predictions than other books. Strongly recomend.
