Book Description

July 6, 2006
The four-mile run, located near the town of Ligonier, PA, was the scene of many conflicts and captures during the period of time from 1760 through 1790. The story of the (Kneisle) Nicely family is but one of the many stories from this area. The Kneisle's traveled from Hesse Darmstadt in Central Europe to Philadelphia and later moved onto a homestead near the Four-Mile Run circa 1761. The book covers their journeys and the Indian capture of one of the family members, Jacob Kneisle. It is a remarkable story covering his capture and his life after his capture and the reuniting of his descendents with the other branches of the family 228 years after his capture.

Nicely also presents other capture stories to give the reader a historic view of the dangerous conditions that existed in the area of the Four-Mile Run during the Revolutionary War. His interest in genealogy led him to the capture of the brother of his Three Great Grandfather and his research into the story eventually aided in reconnecting with the descendents of Jacob Kneisle who was known by his Indian name of Tsu-Ka-We or Crow.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Indian Capture of Jacob (Kneisle) Nicely, July 13, 2011

This review is from: The Indian Capture of Jacob (Kneisle) Nicely (Paperback)
Mr. Nicely presents a very informative narrative of this tragic event in his family. Jacob, a young family member, was taken by indians from the Nicely home near Ligonier, Pennsylvania in the late 18th century. Mr. Nicely covers the incident and his long search for answers in what had become near legend. In the process he shows how his research proved the facts of the story handed down in his family, while correcting errors such as mistaken dates. He shows how, in the end, it brought two lines of the family from different cultures together.

The writer includes travel directions so that the reader can retrace the paths and see the sites central to the story.

Mr. Nicely is not a 'professional writer', but he tells the story simply and gathers all the sources and facts together in this one volume.

One negative: The earlier edition previewed on GoogleBooks includes a more complete (and thus, more useful)'family tree' than the abbreviated version in this edition. I suggest future editions use the more complete 'family tree', as it will greatly aid the many descendants of this family in genealogical research.
