This review is from: The Indian Capture of Jacob (Kneisle) Nicely (Paperback)
Mr. Nicely presents a very informative narrative of this tragic event in his family. Jacob, a young family member, was taken by indians from the Nicely home near Ligonier, Pennsylvania in the late 18th century. Mr. Nicely covers the incident and his long search for answers in what had become near legend. In the process he shows how his research proved the facts of the story handed down in his family, while correcting errors such as mistaken dates. He shows how, in the end, it brought two lines of the family from different cultures together.
The writer includes travel directions so that the reader can retrace the paths and see the sites central to the story. Mr. Nicely is not a 'professional writer', but he tells the story simply and gathers all the sources and facts together in this one volume. One negative: The earlier edition previewed on GoogleBooks includes a more complete (and thus, more useful)'family tree' than the abbreviated version in this edition. I suggest future editions use the more complete 'family tree', as it will greatly aid the many descendants of this family in genealogical research. |
