About the Author

Usha Ramamrutham Bala Krishnan, initiatedDance of the Peacock, based on her many years of research into Indian jewellery. She has a Ph.D. in Ancient Indian Culture from Bombay University and a post-doctorate degree in Museum Studies from New York University. She has worked for the Brooklyn Museum, New York, in the department of Asian Art. She was, until recently, the Indian representative of Sotheby's, the internationally renowned auction house. As a Research Associate, she pioneered and steered the Brooklyn Museum's Mughal Jewellery project and has catalogued and written about the Indian jewellery in the collection of the Musee Barbier-Mueller, Geneva.

She is currently a Fine Arts consultant based in Bombay and the Indian correspondent for theAsian Art Newspaper, London. Usha writes on various aspects of classical and contemporary Indian arts for publications around the world.

Meera Sushil Kumar, has a Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy from Delhi University. Subsequently, she was a lecturer in Philosophy at Indraprastha College at Delhi University. Hailing from a family of reputed jewellers, she has been researching, writing and lecturing on the subject for many years, and brings to the project years of first hand experience with traditional Indian jewellery. Currently, she is working on a book on Indian Textile Traditions.
