An excellent short text for multiculturalism classes,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Indian Sign Language (Paperback)
This book is an excellent short text for classes in the history of multiculturalism. The Native Americans had a simple and effective universal language that was used to communicate between tribes. When tribal councils met, communication was via the sign language demonstrated in this book. Used in combination with some Native American history, and you would have a complete module on an important aspect of American history.
Since so much of the sign language is based on motions or images associated with the idea, the Indian sign language is also easy to learn. Therefore, it is well within the intellectual grasp of late elementary school students.
