A decent novel by the author of the wonderful "A Separate Peace". Not in the same league as that book, but this story of a young man who returns to his home town and becomes involved in the intrigues of an enormously rich and powerful family there is good enough to stand on its own merits.

John Knowles, who died in 2001, was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University, as well as a recipient of the William Faulkner Award and the Rosenthal Award of the National Institute of Arts and Letters.

3 very intersting stars for any Knowles fan,

Although this book did not have the deep impact like most of knowle's other works do, it was still entertaining. The characters, (as usual) have depth and there is the inevitable moral dilemma. If you're a knowles fan, you should order it, you'll probably like it.
