An interesting story but not very "Indiana Jones" like. The story starts slow and builds even slower. The drug references are distracting and detailed in such a way as to be a little disturbing. Basically, not what I was expecting...disappointing.

I was hesitant to read these books when they first came out in the 1980s and was just as cautious to read the reprints that reappeared in conjunction to the Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull release. Nonetheless, I picked up a couple and read this one first as it sounded the least hokey and fit in with the general religious myth themes of the movies. It's a good thing I am compelled to read all the books I buy because had I bought this by itself, I wouldn't continue further.

The story takes place in 1927 with a younger widowed Indy who returns to Chicago after being released from his teaching position in London (due to events referenced from earlier books). In Chicago he meets up with old friend Jack Shannon, has a run-in with Al Capone, and eventually hooks up with Dr Zobolotsky and his vision-seeing daughter, Katrina; who have in their possession a purported fragment of Noah's Ark. Thusly the foursome set forth to Turkey and Mt Ararat to seek out the Ark. Unfortunately the story just isn't all that Indiana Jones-y and rather boring. Indy spends most of his time getting beat up or captured by the likes of Al Capone, bad guy Russian twins, and the Janissary soldiers of Turkey.

Having a day to dwell on the story actually helps make it seem less dismal than it was (thus two stars instead of one). However, the characters don't even get ONTO Mt Ararat until page 252 out of 293 pages (86% of the book has passed). The author makes the climb up the mountain seem like a stroll through a park and the ending is messy and anti-climactic confrontation at the Ark. Overall, I'll try a few of the other Indy adventures but may steer clear of ones written by this author. Lackluster and should have been rethought out for a better pace/story but Indy fans should still like it.

Usually when I yawn I stretch, and this is something Genesis Deluge never seems to stop doing. After reading a few of Rob MacGregor's entries into this franchise (none of them bad, but never better than good) I have realized that he doesn't have much talent for anything other than taking a small idea and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g it out to novel length with all the usual padding.

In this one Indy is encouraged to go to Mount Ararat to looks for Noahs Ark. Sounds like it's going to be filled with adventure huh? Think again! The ark shows up 14 pages from the end of the book and when Indy is finally inside NOTHING is detailed.and the book pretty much comes to a stop right there.

I won't say I was bored by this book, and I almost gave it 3/5, but the fact that there was no big revelation in the final chapter made the effort getting to the ark (for me and for Indy) utterly pointless.

The weakest one so far. But I still have a good feeling about the rest of the books.
