5.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Adventure
This is an action packed adventure with Indiana Jones searching for Noah's Ark! After fighting off to Russian twins through the whole book, Indiana Jones tries two find the Ark on top of a mountain where it landed hundreds of years ago. Can Indy survive the dangerous trail to the top?, or will the Russians find him first? Great Book! A+!

2.0 out of 5 stars IJ-and the Genesis Deluge
An interesting story but not very "Indiana Jones" like. The story starts slow and builds even slower. The drug references are distracting and detailed in such a way as to be a little disturbing. Basically, not what I was expecting...disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Indiana Jones and the Book of Being Captured Repeatedly, July 29, 2008
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was hesitant to read these books when they first came out in the 1980s and was just as cautious to read the reprints that reappeared in conjunction to the Kingdom Of the Crystal Skull release. Nonetheless, I picked up a couple and read this one first as it sounded the least hokey and fit in with the general religious myth themes of the movies. It's a good thing I am compelled to read all the books I buy because had I bought this by itself, I wouldn't continue further.

The story takes place in 1927 with a younger widowed Indy who returns to Chicago after being released from his teaching position in London (due to events referenced from earlier books). In Chicago he meets up with old friend Jack Shannon, has a run-in with Al Capone, and eventually hooks up with Dr Zobolotsky and his vision-seeing daughter, Katrina; who have in their possession a purported fragment of Noah's Ark. Thusly the foursome set forth to Turkey and Mt Ararat to seek out the Ark. Unfortunately the story just isn't all that Indiana Jones-y and rather boring. Indy spends most of his time getting beat up or captured by the likes of Al Capone, bad guy Russian twins, and the Janissary soldiers of Turkey.

Having a day to dwell on the story actually helps make it seem less dismal than it was (thus two stars instead of one). However, the characters don't even get ONTO Mt Ararat until page 252 out of 293 pages (86% of the book has passed). The author makes the climb up the mountain seem like a stroll through a park and the ending is messy and anti-climactic confrontation at the Ark. Overall, I'll try a few of the other Indy adventures but may steer clear of ones written by this author. Lackluster and should have been rethought out for a better pace/story but Indy fans should still like it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Yawn, July 5, 2010
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
Usually when I yawn I stretch, and this is something Genesis Deluge never seems to stop doing. After reading a few of Rob MacGregor's entries into this franchise (none of them bad, but never better than good) I have realized that he doesn't have much talent for anything other than taking a small idea and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g it out to novel length with all the usual padding.

In this one Indy is encouraged to go to Mount Ararat to looks for Noahs Ark. Sounds like it's going to be filled with adventure huh? Think again! The ark shows up 14 pages from the end of the book and when Indy is finally inside NOTHING is detailed.and the book pretty much comes to a stop right there.

I won't say I was bored by this book, and I almost gave it 3/5, but the fact that there was no big revelation in the final chapter made the effort getting to the ark (for me and for Indy) utterly pointless.

The weakest one so far. But I still have a good feeling about the rest of the books.

This was the first Indiana Jones novel I had ever read, it won't be the last. I really enjoyed it and found the book to be just as exciting as the movies. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of Turkey and the many twists and turns of the plot! By the time the book was over I was ready to read another. I just ordered three more and plan to read them all. Good for readers of all ages. A thrilling respite from "heavy" reading and a pure joy for those adventurous of spirit!

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring the whole way through, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
This Indiana Jones book is the first one that I bought, thinking that a book about Indiana Jones and Noah's Ark would be a great story, but to my disapointment it was boring! It took 252 pages to even get to Mount Ararat! It took a long time to get going, and when action got going it was gone just as soon as it had begun. Not the kind of story I would expect from Indiana jones. In all of his movies Indy is finding clues and making sense of them, but in this book there are none of it. Dont get this book if you like the movies, you will be disapointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars A product of mass production, February 1, 2004

This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book aims low and achieves its mark. If you want action, this book has it. And MacGregor has done his homework regarding the details of Arkeology. But the book has little else. The plot is largely predictable. Difficulties are overcome by paranormalism and luck rather than by skill. The characters have some dimension but still come off as stereotyped. In short, the book has no depth. It is entertaining, but there are plenty of other books in the world that offer entertainment *and* high quality.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read but, Indy's not tough enough, April 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the fourth Indy book by MacGregor I've read.
Like the rest, I found it well-written but dry at times.
There tends to be less action than the movies but, in it's
defense, his charactization of Indy is pretty close.
On the most positive note, this book kept more with the movies than the previous ones did, as there is a race to gain a Biblical artifact; and some religious issues were touched on between the opposing sides.
Personally, the most negative point I found was Indy spends most of book either captured or getting beat up and THEN captured.
Granted, I know we're talking about a younger Indy here and he
doesn't have his later experience but, he's still Indiana Jones.
Let's bust a few heads already. We're four books in now and the
action is still lacking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, January 5, 2000
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
Overall, I thought this was a pretty good Indy novel. It didn't have me as spellbound as _Dance of the Giants_, but the locales, plot, and variety of characters (Bolsheviks, Chicago mob, Janissaries) are enough to make it a worthwhile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Genesis Deluge, January 23, 2010
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge (A Bantam Falcon book) (Mass Market Paperback)
Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge is the fourth of twelve Indiana Jones novels published in the 1990s. This series, officially licensed by Lucasfilm, is inspired by the Indiana Jones character who first appeared in 1981 with the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Rob MacGregor authored the first six books including The Genesis Deluge. Martin Caidin wrote the seventh and eighth books, and Max McCoy wrote the last four.

The events of this book take place in 1917 and 1927. This story combines elements typically found in an Indiana Jones adventure: an artifact of historical/religious significance (Noah's Ark), unique and interesting locations (Chicago in 1927 and Turkey), and bad guys (Russian agents and Turkish Janissaries) hot on the trail of Indiana Jones. As in The Peril at Delphi and The Dance of the Giants (the first and second books in the series), Jack Shannon, Indy's friend from college, plays an important role in the story. In fact, I missed Shannon in The Seven Veils and I was glad that MacGregor brought back this interesting character from Indy's college days at the University of Chicago.

I thought this was one of the better books in the series. I learned about Chicago, Al Capone, Istanbul, Ankara, Cappadocia, and Mount Ararat. Despite being the fourth book in the series, this book can be enjoyed by itself. Get out your map of Turkey because you will need it as you follow the trail of action, adventure, and Indiana Jones in this entertaining book.
