This review is from: Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb (Mac) (CD-ROM)
If you like Indian Jones movies (and who doesnt?) and have a Macintosh, this is the game thats hard to beat. Ive read that some dont like the control scheme, but after a little practice I found it fairly intuitive--just point Indiana with the mouse and press w. My only gripe would the lack of a walk mode. This is purely an esthetic however since there is a stalk mode that is the equivalent. The best part about the game is the combat engine. All of Harrison Fords characteristic moves are well modeled and the enemy AI is relentless and clever. I have an iMac 1.25 Ghz with 768 MB ram and was able to play in the high resolution mode with no trace of slow down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Touchy Controls, Limited Save Game Features Mar an otherwise Great Game., July 15, 2005

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb (Mac) (CD-ROM)
I have enjoyed playing Indiana Jones Games since Playing the Temple of Doom on the NES and I vaguely remember a version of Raiders of the Lost Ark on Atari. So I was delighted when Emperor's Tomb was ported to the Mac, especially a more arcade/FPS instead of the Fate of Atlantis. The Graphics on Emperor's Tomb are stunning and this is one of the first games I bought after upgrading my graphics card and processor.
The controls are extemely touchy, it's easy to miss a jump or walk off the edge of a ledge accidently, and it take some getting used to them to fight and shoot well.
I will admit that the save game feature could be better and it seems more like a game consule game that you can't save wheever you want.
This game is a must for Indiana Jone's fans and recommended for people who enjoy FPS games.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT for Mac. It won't load on G4 or G5 Macs. Aspyr technical Support can't seem to help either. Rather burn your money, it will be more fun!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars The problem that made me give-up., June 11, 2005
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb (Mac) (CD-ROM)
First let me say, I have no problems with the game as far as graphics, plot etc. What made me finally give up was a the fact that you could not just save anywhere within the game, as you can in Tomb Raider. The game only saves when you complete a level. If you die while trying to complete the level or simply have to stop before the level is complete, you have to start all over at the beginning of the level. ARRGH.

The system requirements on this page are misleading. This game is not compatible with the newer Intel-based Macs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, but. . ., February 21, 2005
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb (Mac) (CD-ROM)
This is a good game with good graphics, considering its an oldie. The story line is great and game play is good, But the problem here is that if you depend on a PC controller a.k.a gamepad, its a real pain in the neck to set the proper gameplay settings on your device. Also there is a patch that you NEED to download and intall for this game, from there web site. If you dont get the patch your system will crash every once and a while.

2.0 out of 5 stars Computer users are not engineers, how do I know what versions of Mac Software are Unsupported?, July 5, 2009
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb (Mac) (CD-ROM)
I love some of the older games, since I purchased my first computer (a Packard-Bell box which a couple of guys from Taiwan souped up for me) in 1987 I have tried to make myself aware of compatibility issues. I bought my last PC while in Seminary which used Dell and MAC computers, I got my second HP. From the get-go, using the Web became intolerable and the system crashed everyday in addition to software requiring more space both in RAM and ROM. The older game architectures still worked for passing the time since retirement. I recently got an iMAC. I know nothing about the technical aspects of MAC operating systems. When I found "Indiana Jones and the Emporor's Tomb" advertised for MAC, I had no idea that it was built for old MAC architecture and the company that made it, never did update the game for useage beyond the Power MAC. The packaging is misleading and misrepresents the system requirements. It says, in barely legible letters on the bottom of the box "Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher" and I have 10.5.7. No problem here. The next req is"800 MHz Power PC G4 or BETTER." For all intents and purposes, an iMac Leopard 2.4 GHz DDR2 SDRAM should be better than the "800 MHz Power PC G4." Not so according to ASPYR reps.

They said "This is a old game that is currently not distributed by our company. Unfortunately, there is nothing we could do to update the pre-existing MSR's on the box. When this game came out, there were no Intel processors (in Macs), so there is really no way we could make any reference to Intel processors (short of recalling this and other titles we did before Intel processors were used).
Also, since we no longer distribute this title, there is no way for us to warn retail outlets of possible confusion for the consumer.
We have provided a number of Universal Binary patches for some of our older titles that often help the older titles work on Intel processors, but since this is a time consuming and expensive process, we have limited these 'UB' patches to games we currently distribute, and also generate a relevant amount of support requests."

Amazon apparently has an abundance of old "Power Mac or better" software on their shelves and need to move it. Though a long retired systems analyst, even I do not know everything there is to know about engineering hardware but I do know software and it seems to me that if a software is to old to take responsibility for, it needs to be ditched or made public domain so that folks that would take the time to update it can. For seniors, the slower paced games of earlier decades are familiar and fun.

If you have even a SLIGHTLY newer mac, this game will not work on it. I emailed the creators of the game and they let me know that it is impossible to install on an Intel-based mac. Good and quick delivery from the sellers, but the game is unplayable for me...makes a good coaster.

Loved the game so much the initial time I played it on windows that I thought it will be great to add it to my collection of Mac games. Graphics are not at all choppy on my powerbook 12".
