Best Indy Book in a Long Time,
By Robert Mason (Utah) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Mystery of Mount Sinai (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel took me by surprise.
On the surface, it really looks like a kid's book. It is short (not even 200 pages), published by Scholastic, and the Nazi on the cover looks like a comic book character (metallic arm holding a ball of electricity). Nevertheless, the writing is excellent. The book is stripped of all unnecessary thoughts and inactivity. The author filled the book with foreign language, World War II research, and impressive scholarship. I really kind of expected something more shallow, and still hoped that it would be enjoyable. I found instead a novel that was endlessly intriguing (I mean, we zip from Mayan South America, to the house of Henry Jones Sr. in the US, to Fascist Italy during World War II, to the Middle East). Characters are speaking in Spanish, Italian, and German all over the place--and that's what I remember off hand. To anyone who really loves Indiana Jones, no matter your age, I promise you this is an enjoyable read, no matter how short. I can only wish that the author will consider writing more Indy novels. I mean it.

Great for younger readers,

This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Mystery of Mount Sinai (Mass Market Paperback)
My son is 6 years old, and this is the 1st book read to him without pictures..aka a 'big boy book'. He is a big fan of Indiana Jones and while some elements of this story do go over his head, he stops the reading frequently to ask questions about some of the story elements such as geographic locations and historical figures, so not only has this book been enteraining for him, its also been educational! And while this book is geared towards a pre-teen audience, parents who grew up with Indiana Jones will enjoy this as well - lots of action! I decided to order the other Scholastic title 'Indiana Jones and the Pyramid of the Sorcerer' and imagine it will be good as well. I hope they plan to expand this series!
