5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant!!!
This book really feels like the movies.Nonstop action and mystery are some of the very well written highlights. Some books seem really good from the synopsis on the back cover, but the inside's only half as good. Not this book,it's good the whole way through(and it kind of reminds me of Alfred Hichcock's movie "Vertigo" because of the way the main female...

Well once again Rob MacGregor messes up the Indy storyline. The whole spirt quest dream thing was too outlandish. Now I know Indy runs into stuff that is off the wall, but Rob takes it WAY TOO FAR. For example the portal is so freakin crazy cause of the way the next book is written.(they are conected) This book could have been great but Rob put in too many outlandish ideas. It would have been fine if he had just included the alicorn.(Most Indy movies only have one item that is mythological)Like I said before if he just included the alicorn and that was it, he would have been fine. Too bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much of a legacy, July 29, 2011
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy (Paperback)
What a slow, dull, plodding book!

For what it's worth, and that ain't much, the story concerns Indy's adventures in the American deserts, bookended by French mountains and Italian streets, as he hunts down a Unicorn horn that has magical powers. Yes, they really have sunk THAT low when trying to think of enchanting MacGuffins for our hero to go after.

There are double crosses, and some extremely unexciting 'action' scenes, and a whole load of nothing else. I often think that Rob MacGregor's Indy stories have about 10 pages worth of mileage that he e-x-p-a-n-d-s to 300 or so with lots of filler and padded dialogue. It's such an infuriatingly boring read. The high-flying escapades we're used to seeing in the movies is a million miles from this cure for insomnia.

For absolute hardcore Indy fans only, and even they won't enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great action/adventure book, July 28, 2004

Indiana Jones and the Unicorns Legacy

Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy, by Rob MacGregor, is about Indiana Jones's quest for an alicorn (unicorn horn). The book was pretty cool because it takes place in many different places of the world like, Rome, Utah, New Mexico, and it made it feel like you were traveling the world! The book didn't have the best detail, but it had a lot of action, which kept my interest. The book does have some rough spots, but for the most part you will not want to put it down.

This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy (Paperback)
Indiana Jones is portrayed as an archaeologist, a connoisseur of homo sapiens' origin and development, not an anthropologist. I expect him to be under attack of ancient traps or curses which serve as an introduction to the rest of the book. Since this does not occur in several of the books I have read, I assume the author is at fault, not my expectations. Furthermore I expect the books to be written for adaptation into movies but they are too poorly written for that, or would cost too much to produce as written. He is not a superman but I expect greater abilities from him than are shown. He stumbles out of predicaments he should nor have gotten into through coincidence, not abilities. I wonder how can anyone share empathy with such a character? The author, Rob MacGregor, shows ability but does not develop it. In the Unicorn's Legacy Mac lets the unicorn cast a shadow over most of the adventures in the book but he never swings either way, was there or was there not an unicorn in the world at any time, particularly near prehistory? An archaeologist would have some opinion about that, some shreds of his opinions and could cite evidence to lend credence to his opinions, maybe even enough to sway others to his point of view. Jones does not, he is content, for some unknown reason, to keep his mouth shut, even to help hide anything which might make unicorns real. How can anyone believe in Indiana Jones? Is the bullwhip enough? I don't think so and I never found anything else sufficient to reify his character.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Unicorn's Legacy, March 11, 2010
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy (Paperback)
Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy is the fifth of twelve Indiana Jones novels published in the 1990s. This series, officially licensed by Lucasfilm, is inspired by the Indiana Jones character who first appeared in 1981 with the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Rob MacGregor authored the first six books including The Unicorn's Legacy. Martin Caidin wrote the seventh and eighth books, and Max McCoy wrote the last four.

The events of this book take place in 1786, 1924, and 1928. This story combines elements typically found in an Indiana Jones adventure: an artifact of mythological significance (the horn of a unicorn), unique and interesting places (France, the American Southwest, and Rome), and enemies old (Roland Walcott) and new (Diego Calderone) presenting a myriad of problems for Indiana Jones. Jack Shannon and Marcus Brody play important roles in the story.

I did like this book, but I do not consider it one of the better books in the series. Nevertheless, I enjoyed learning about prehistoric cave art in Europe, Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, and Rome. While the book makes references to events from the previous books, it can be read and understood by itself. If you like action, adventure, and historical/archaeological mysteries, then you will like this Indiana Jones novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book is interesting but doesn't live up to Indy's standards., July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy (Paperback)
What can I say? This book is all right; It has an interesting plot and it's worth reading. However, it comes up a bit short when you consider that it's about the one, the only, Indiana Jones. I mean, there just isn't enough action on his part. The book seems to be centered on confusedly wandering around the desert, and there's too much talking. The main detail that makes this book worth reading is the alicorn. It is probably my favorite artifact yet, because of how it can bring both good and evil, and how it's owner's usually die of...but that would be telling.
