"INdians of the pacific Northwest is a volume in the University of Oklahoma's landmark yet (now) dated (the title, not the history) "The Civilization of the American Indian Series." Well-written and researched, accessible for the general, student or academic audience, with great (black & white) photographs, drawings and maps. It contains a treasure-trove of information about the Native peoples and communities of the Pacific Northwest, and their ultimately destructive encounters with European Americans in an oversized (8.5" x 11") paperback for $25, with endnotes, an excellent (although no longer current - hence the 4 stars)bibliography, and an accurate index. What a bargain! Highly recommended.

This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of the Pacific Northwest indians. The book's author, Robert Ruby, is not responsible for deficiencies in the condition of books sent by Amazon sellers. To reiterate, The author does not send copies of books through Amazon himself. Please complain about your copy's condition to the Amazon seller who you purchased it from.

Item received in timely manner but the cover and a few pages had a big knife slash right through the middle of the whole book.
