5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a GLOBAL music resource book...
As an American living in Europe and playing in a band (...), I appreciate to have a resource such as "The Indie Bible" which does not just focus on just the North American market. Take note South Americans, Europeans, Asians, and even Australians, you are not left out! Could an author based in North America acually look outside of the continent and write a GLOBAL book...

As an American living in Europe and playing in a band (...), I appreciate to have a resource such as "The Indie Bible" which does not just focus on just the North American market. Take note South Americans, Europeans, Asians, and even Australians, you are not left out! Could an author based in North America acually look outside of the continent and write a GLOBAL book. Yes! Mr. Wimble, I salute you. First of all, buy this book ONLY if you have a QUALITY demo or full-length CD (or plan to record one in the very near future). This book is devoted to bands or musicians who meet this criteria. Now on to the review. If you want your music played and reviewed across the world, or at least have the opportunity, buy this book. For reviews and airplay/netplay a list of music publications, websites and radio stations are listed according to musical genres so you know that you will be contacting the correct people. Now, since you will probably be within one music genre a large part of this book will not be useful to you but the parts that are relevant to you are a goldmine. Services to help sell your music are also listed according to genre and are a very important part of the mix once the reviews and airplay/netplay start. The last section of the book (about 1/8 of the book) is devoted to articles that are relevant to all. This section covers radio airplay, getting your music reviewed, tools, technical tips, legal advice, marketing/promotion, distribution, the music business and if you need it, motivational articles. I highly recommend this book to all aspiring bands and musicians who wish to use all options available to get their music heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Resource Directory out there!, December 9, 2004
By
This book is a 316-page collection of the most useful resources on the planet and presented in an easy-to-follow format ... quite possibly the most valuable piece of literature to occupy any recording artist's library.

I was first impressed with the physical quality of "The Indie Bible." Its durable construction and crystal clear, full color images make for a very pleasing read and, content aside, is alone worth the cover price. It's surely built to outlive many of the companies listed in it. Every page is painstakingly organized and it's obvious that the utmost attention was paid to every detail.

Don't get me wrong. While "The Indie Bible" is pretty to look at, it's also a very powerful instrument ... chock-full of up-to-date resources covering every musically viable aspect beneficial to the DIY artist. There are seven huge sections listing everything from people that will review independent music to radio stations that will play it, as well as publications, CD manufacturing, marketing and general knowledge resources ... and these are all people who want to be contacted by independent artists.

The "Bible" also has a section loaded with informative articles ... all written by the top authorities in the biz and all geared to better inform artists on a variety of important subjects that could greatly impact their success. I was amazed at the number of essential little details I would have missed without them, were I marketing my own music. Additionally, the organization of this publication is top-notch. Broken down by service type, genre and geographical locale, every morsel of information is easy to locate.

As if all that weren't enough, there's also a page with key tips on how to use the assets contained in the book. I'd like to draw special attention to the significance of this particular section, as the book's creator has included a short essay on the do's and don'ts when using the "Bible." His words come from the experience and feedback of five previous editions and I recommend reading it before even leafing through the other pages.

There are a lot of resource directories out there, but "The Indie Bible" is by far the best one I've seen. It does everything but actually contact the people listed in it and, if used wisely, could be the difference between a stagnant career and a successful one. I can see where this book might be the most dangerous weapon in an artist's arsenal.

I really have to hand it to author, Dave Wimble. He's outdone himself with this edition of "The Indie Bible." It truly is the ultimate all-in-one networking device and should be considered more of a tool than a book. I would fully recommend it as a top resource to anyone trying to further his or her musical career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of contacts. Great for a marketing brainstorm!, December 7, 2005

This review is from: The Indie Bible 7th Edition (Paperback)
There are a ton of contacts in the Indie Bible, but don't buy it for numbers alone. The thing that I think is best about this book is that there are a lot of niche places to promote your music such as radio shows, web sites, and labels. And niche is key when it comes to independent music marketing. IF you think you're going to get out there and blanket the entire US (or world) like major labels do, you're fooling yourself. The Indie BIble will help you go narrow and deep.

1.0 out of 5 stars you better enjoy the internet more than your guitar, March 10, 2004

I just wrote this letter to the publisher.
ive recently received the indie bible looking for a compilation of addresses to get reviews and radio play. on opening this book i found that there are no physical addresses to send my cd to although quotes from these people ask to have cds sent to them. is this book really suggesting that i go to 7200 websites just to get an address to mail my cd? i bought this book so that i wouldnt have to do all this leg work. its very presumptuous that you think musicians have t1 lines at their disposal to even consider such a feat. if your argument is the stability of a physical address vs. a web address i know for a fact that websites change considerably faster than brick and mortar, but then again why would you not publish both? this book, if i have the patience, is going to be so much work that you could have solved by merely printing a real address. i want my money back. i know that musician magazine publishes a very similar special edition that has addresses, real addresses and web addresses and email addresses. maybe they understand musicians and you understand independence (as in you want me to do alot of your work independent of you). i want my money back. i want my trust back. this book is only going to eat away at a ticking clock. i have to go to rehearsal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book For Independent Musician, September 19, 2006

This review is from: The Indie Bible 7th Edition (Paperback)
If you are a independent musician, you can't afford NOT to have this book. This book is incomparable. I have made so many contacts and have been introduced to so many new services and and products. I am currently using to services to help aid in the distribution of my music that I found in the Indie Bible. The money I saved in one month, paid for the Indie Bible. Then you have the contacts. UNBELIEVABLE!!! These contacts are so complete and organized that is hard to imagine how the author did it. It has every radio station that will play your music, plus every written and online publication that will review your music. I will never let an edition slip by me.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Indie Bible 7th Edition, January 3, 2007
This review is from: The Indie Bible 7th Edition (Paperback)
This is a great book full of contacts and resources where you can get exposure for your band. The majority of the book is a convenient collection of contact info such as email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers and websites. There's also a helpful "how to" tips section. I recommend buying this item.
