Book Description

This exciting anthology contains stories from twenty-five women from different parts of the world. Their ages differ, as do their backgrounds and locations, but one thing they all have in common is a spirit of independence and a determination to not only succeed, but prevail. Whether their struggles are to maintain balance between motherhood and career, escape from an abusive relationship, or to step out in faith and pursue a dream, all of these women have forged their own path.

As women, one of our most powerful "gifts" is the ability to encourage one another. This book is an effort to encourage women across the world. These twenty-five women share stories that will make you laugh, inspire you, and maybe even make you cry. Their hope is that these stories will inspire YOUR independent spirit and allow you to live the life you were meant to live.

In addition, each woman has included a “sneak peek” into one of her own novels.

All proceeds from this book will go a charitable organizaton that fights breast cancer - a disease all too close to home for many of us. Our prayers and best wishes are with those who are struggling with this terrible and devastating disease. Buy a book for yourself and “gift” one to the important women in your life. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you for your support.

About the Author

Gathered by Cheryl Shireman, the Indie Chicks are a group of women writers who enjoy supporting and encouraging other women writers. We have all published in various ways - independently, with traditional publishers, or by combining both methods. No matter how published, we have one thing in common - a love of writing and an independent spirit. In our ranks, you will find much-acclaimed bestsellers and also a few writers who are just starting out. We live in various parts of the world and come from a variety of backgrounds. Originally, we gathered together to create one anthology. The experience was so enjoyable that many of us decided to continue together to create more anthologies. We believe that together we can make a difference not only in each other’s lives, but in the world. We hope you will stop by the Indie Chicks Café - our website where you will not only find all of our books, but where you can also find all of us hanging out and blogging about various topics close to our hearts. 5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring stories from women writers October 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Aspiring writers are always searching for that elusive element -- the secret that sets the stars in the sky, the one thing (be it luck or talent or grit or friends in high places) that makes some writers shine and others fade to obscurity. In truth, there is no "one thing." The superstars, the blockbusters and the bestsellers have probably risen up the ranks thanks to a combination of talent, luck and very hard work. But if you're looking for that secret to success, well you could do a lot worse than look here.

These ladies are unflinchingly honest, laying bare their personal lives and their own hopes and aspirations to encourage others. Every cent made off this book is going to charity, but with their personal stories these ladies have demonstrated they not only have big hearts, they have guts. It takes real courage to leave an abusive relationship. It takes real courage to stare down depression and come out the victor. It takes real courage to be a single Mom. And it takes courage to write -- and especially to go it alone and put your writing before the world as an indie author. These brave ladies have done all that and more. Above all, it takes a heck of a lot of courage to overcome a battle with breast cancer. This book is an inspiring, illuminating read, but every book sold also helps make the life of breast cancer sufferers -- those courageous women who could be our mothers, our sisters, our daughters, ourselves -- just a little easier. Buy it today. If not for yourself, for a woman you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review by Free Book Reviews November 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
If you have been following this blog for any amount of time (if not then you should), you know that I review books and interview indie authors. I support indie authors as much as any one person can. I know that I state in the about page that I do this because of my wife (RJ Palmer) but this is not the case anymore. I started out just wanting a way to benefit her and I can admit that this was purely for greed and love of a wife, but in the time since I started this blog I have grown. I have met some incredibly talented, honest, helpful, cheerful and the adjectives could go on forever people. These authors not only pour their heart into their own baby but they work together as a community to help others in their craft get better, thus making a better experience for us readers. Show me other arenas where the stars work together to better the experience for the consumer. These authors do their all fire best to take new indie authors under their wings and cultivate the storyteller to a level that really fine tunes their craft. I have to say that at this point I am happy that I fell into this world feet first and have not looked back since and I am sure my wife feels the same.

Now how does any of the above go with a review of a book? How does this help you decide on whether or not to purchase it? Why should you care how I feel? How did you get here when you used a different search term?

I can not answer any of these questions, only you, the reader of this, can. Now on to the review. I had thought that I would review the book overall instead of per story as there are 25 stories. I feel that reviewing each story would detract from the overall meaning of the book. Also at the end of this review I will include a small note from each of the authors of this book.

What a fantastic and inspirational idea! This is a brilliant way to try different authors work and a way to find new books to read while at the same time supporting a great and worthy cause. It is also a great book for dipping in and out of in the short free spaces of a busy life. This will also help to inspire and encourage women to change their lives for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars KUDOS TO THE INDIE CHICKS December 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not entirely sure what I expected when I opened this e-book. Tear-jerker type personal stories of the author's journey towards publication, and excerpts from memoir's and girl-power oriented novels. Neither are exactly my style.

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of uplifting testimonials (barely a tear shed, though I assure you all tears were appropriate) and stories of strength and commitment to the fine art of writing. These women amazed me, not only with their writing journeys, but also with their choice of excerpts.

The genre's encompass romance (including paranormal), contemporary fiction, fantasy, historical, mystery, suspense, and YA. I'm not going to tell you I read every excerpt - and I'm not talking a few paragraphs or a chapter for an excerpt; these excerpts are anywhere from three to six chapters). Some of the genre's did not appeal to me as a reader. Not due to the quality of writing; these are all awesome writers who know how to craft a well developed, well written story concept. If you are a consistent reader/writer, then you know that not all stories appeal to all readers, regardless of the Author's writing skills.

Several of the excerpts left me "high and dry"; gasping for breath as I turned the page and - there was no more. After a few of those cliffhanger experiences, I had to STOP myself from reading through several of the longer offerings so that I didn't feel I'd already read the novel - regardless of where it ended. (I had to close my eyes sometimes to NOT read on as I thumbed to the next Chick.)

I skimmed through many of the actual excerpts to get to the author introductions - getting sidetracked frequently by the engaging published works.
