5.0 out of 5 stars nice!, May 29, 2008

Terrene are a group from Seattle, WA whose music is very atmospheric and jangly. This is their debut album which is produced by Phil Ek (Built To Spill, The Shins, Modest Mouse). You can also hear influences of Sigur Ros and some Smashing Pumpkins (guitars mostly).

Most of the songs on this album are very beautiful. All of the instruments are heavily layered, and the vocals are mixed in almost just like another instrument. Media Sift Through Heart Rises (track 7) is faster paced than the others, with an urgency and the style of gy!be. One of my favorites is Stereo (track 5) which features the jangly guitars in the forefront and has build up. Unwelcome (track 9) is a change to electronic tones with a build up to guitars. 51 (track 1) is a strong opening track with indie pop leanings. Andromeda (track 2) is extremely layered and ethereal. Enemy Landlord (track 8) is an answering machine mesage from an annoying landlord.

This is a brilliant and exceptional album that will appeal to fans of Death Cab for Cutie, Fields, Ambulance Ltd, Earlimart, Winterpills, Posies, Vestals, Clearlake, Bikeride, Shins, Pearlfishers, Nik Kershaw (his last 3). Oh, and the Fabs...Get this and enjoy over and over!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good tunes, weak vox..., November 18, 2011

This is a nice CD with some really catchy tunes. Unfortunately, John Dylan's vocals are a bit too weak - a bit reminiscent of FOW's Chris Collingwood. Certainly some serious promise here, though.
