WOW!,

Oh, my God. Let me say that again... Oh, my God. Got this Cd on a whim, tossed it in the stereo and was IMMEDIATELY mesmerized. Cool, smooth swing with a jazzy undertone that really makes you stop and listen. Sweet and sexy, type of music you have to turn down the lights and sit on the couch with a brandy snifter in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Johnny Boyd? one of the most talented voices that I have heard in a long time. Real velvet that one... If you like swing, jazz, or just big band sound... GET this CD! A definate must to have on your rack.

Just think of the color Indigo and you have an idea of this album. Cool, smooth, deep, and beautiful! Just straight good swing and jazz without all the clutter you find in most neo-swing albums. It's a must buy for any music lover!

A year ago I wrote a review of this album saying, "Pick it up third." Time has passed, and I have a slightly different outlook on it.Indigo Swing was my favorite of the swing comeback era. Outstanding (reserved, confident and colorful) vocals from Johnny Boyd, and a killer-smooth swinging rhythm from the rest of the band. Pianist William Beatty rolls out some sock-offing solos (check "Flip Flop and Fly" - the right hand flies while the left keeps rocking his standby G bass line!). The brass section is good, but as a piano player, I'm biased. "Reet, Petite & Gone" and "My Baby Just Cares for Me" are stand-outs also. This album delivers as far as good, solid swing songs. My only complaint is that it feels more like a collection of stray Indigo Swing tunes than a cohesive album. If you're new to IS, get hooked on "All Aboard," move on to "Red Light!", and then top it off with this. 4 1/2 stars + 1/2 subjective tilt = 5 stars

The Best modern swing album,

Forget loud but messy bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. This is the swing band of the moment, smooth and effortless with infectious rythmn, beautiful vocals, and a unified sound. They'd do Prima, Basie, and Goodman proud!

This cd changed my life. Before, I was always depressed listening to the melencholy sounds of Tool,Pink Floyd,Radiohead, and NIN. Then one day, I picked up a cd called Hipsters,Zootsuits, and Wingtips, and I heard Swing Lover. I did'nt really think much about it. Then on impulse I went out and bought All Aboard, and I instantly fell in love. I was HAPPY and I actually felt like dancing. I honestly thought that I could not find a better more uplifting swing cd. Boy was I wrong, Indigo Swing's debut, is maybe even the best cd I've heard....EVER! Every song on this disc is a true classic. If you are like me and you tend to let music influence your mood, do yourself a favor, get on your feet, run out and buy this disc. You WON'T regret it.

See this band Live,
By A Customer

I saw Indigo Swing LIVE in Durham, North Carolina last night and they were THE BEST SWING BAND I have seen. They played songs off of all of their CD's. It was so awesome. They got the crowd dancing with medium tempo lindy-able songs, fast tempoed Jitterbug-able songs, and even some good slow songs. I had to leave early but they were coming out for their second encore as I was walking out the door. I don't think I have danced as well as I did last night to their music. If you ever get the chance to see them live DON'T PASS IT UP!!!!!!

The birth of a great band,
By Robert C. Topper (Richardson, Texas) - See all my reviews

After being mesmerized by their second CD, "All Aboard!", I had to hunt out this their first effort. Although the personnel had changed somewhat from this CD to the second, the key band members, William Beatty, Johnny Boyd and Baron Shul, appear on both. The band, and Boyd's vocal skills, seem best suited to the slower, blusier numbers, and there are several fine examples here. "Please Tell 'Em", "My Baby Just Cares for Me", and especially "She Dreams of Me" fill that bill. This is not to say that the band is not adept at the faster, more outright swinging numbers as Beatty can beat them out on the piano as well as anyone. Baron Shul is the icing on the cake that sets this band above the others. Two good examples are "I Love Paris" and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" which have outstanding piano work, but would not be the same without his sax.

Indigo Swing - Style, Rhythm and Energy from San Francisco,
By A Customer
This review is from: Indigo Swing (Audio CD)
This album hooked me on Swing! Its the only CD I have worn out! Of the 14 tracks 10 are GREAT 2 good and 2 I can live without. Trying to pick my favorite is difficult it changes from week to week. From the great dance songs like "Red Door Blues" and "Flip Flop & Fly" to the moving "She Dreams of Me". Indigo Swing are Swing with Style, Rhythm and Energy. And they are even better live!! See also their second album "All Aboard" it is just as good. Other artists I would recommend would be Lavay Smith & her Red Hot Skillet Lickers "One Hour Mama". Bill Elliot Swing Orchester. Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums. I do like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, 8-1/2 Souveniers, Big Time Operator. My taste does NOT extend to Cherry Poppin Daddies.

Authentic Swing,

This was an amazing discovery, like I felt when I first heard Joe Jackson's "Jumpin Jive", years ago. This is the most authentic sound in swing that's out there today. Johnny Boyd has the perfect voice for this music, which is a nice mix of covers and new music. I have all their CDs but this is still my favorite.

A fine debut,

I really liked this CD. I bought it after obtaining the other 2 IS releases, 'All Aboard' and 'Red Light'. I particularly enjoyed 'Swing Lover' & 'Choo Choo Ch' Boogie'. This album does have the feel of a debut and is a bit rough around the edges. The musician changes made for 'All Aboard' did improve the band a bit. An enjoyable effort, though, but don't go in after listening to 'All Aboard' or 'Red Light' and expect it to be quite as solid as those albums.
