you thought you understood risk society,

This review is from: Individualization: Instituitionalized Individualism and Its Social and Political Consequences (Published in association with Theory, Culture & Society) (Paperback)
You thought you understood Beck's Risk Society, as most people do, but without reading this book, you can't understand it. in part this is because Risk Society has its complement in institutionalized individualism. To understand risk society, you need to understand institutionalized individualism, and with both theoretical concepts, supported by empirical evidence, then you can work on perfecting your questions. In short, this book is a must read for anyone interested in questions of modernity and risk society, its implications and effects. Like most of his recent books, this is a collection of several essays united by a theme, but the theme is perhaps one of the most important ones to think about these days, as informationalism starts to push into new forms of institutionalization.
