Then came two successive strongmen: Sukarno and Suharto. Indonesia has Asia's largest Muslim population, leading to religious conflict. A terrorist organization with links to Al Quaida claimed responsibility for a 2003 suicide bombing at a resort town in Bali that claimed 200 lives, including nearly 100 Australians, who are Indonesia's nearest neighbors. East Timor claims autonomy and is at war with the Indonesian government."
