Indonesian, Compact: Learn to Speak and Understand Indonesian with Pimsleur Language Programs (Pimsleur Instant Conversation)

Pimsleur is the fastest way I've found to learn to speak a language. Their method gives you the ability to make a sentence in a very short time, whereas every other course I've found simply has you memorizing words (eg, Rosetta Stone), without every knowing how to use them in conversation. Unfortunately, this course is just a teaser. Apparently, Simon and Schuster doesn't believe that anyone wants to continue learning this language, because they only put 10 lessons in this course, and they don't have any more courses in this language! That is very disappointing, because now I must find another way to build my vocabulary. S&S - get off your butts and finish the job!!!!!

Well, I bought this program primarily for a friend of mine who doesn't know any Indonesian at all (I know the Indonesian language). At the first instance of going through it, she could follow the program quite well. She could participate in the conversation and practices. I can see that the situations in the program are quite real, and easy to follow.

Although I have not gone through the whole program myself, I can see the relevancy of the different settings within the program. It should be good for anyone who wants to have some understanding of the Indonesian language, particularly in situational conversation.

I bought this product for my recent trip to Bali, Indonesia. This was an easy to use Indonesian language mini-course. I was able to listen to this on my iPod every day leading up to my trip. Not only did I learn some basics vocabulary, I was able to piece together other phrases and sentences from new words I learned once I was in Bali. The only downside is that this particular course is so much shorter than other Pimsleur language course. For an eager beaver like myself, I was able to complete this course in a matter of one-week. Not a bad product for an introduction to the Indonesian language.

I am an Intercultural Studies major at a private intitution in the southern US. I try to make it a point to travel out of the country at least once a year and have been to Indonesia twice. I absolutly LOVE the pimsleur series. It is an excellent way to learn some basics of the language quick and easy. I used the older edition of this same Indonesian program and benifited greatly from it. It was well worth the 60 bucks I paid and now that it's only 32.97, it is a steal! While this may not be the best program to learn phrases such as "where is the bathroom" and the like it IS a great way to get rolling in your knowledge of the Indonesian language. I don't know what they have updated but i'm sure it is great! It is well worth the money.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I would really like to see a whole program developed for Indonesian seeing as there is not really any other good material out there for this language. However i do realize it's based on supply and demand and there really isn't a big market for Indonesian.

This is a great product for beginners who have a hard time with pronunciation. The speaker will go through each syllable of a word until you have the accent right. You will quickly learn easy and useful phrases. Due to the repetitive nature of the course, you will remember words and phrases much more easily.

They use a "recall" method, meaning you are taught different words and phrases and then the speaker will ask you a question and you try to give the appropriate answer ("How are you?" "I am fine"). You have to apply what you are learning, so that it isn't just memorizing words and phrases. This method requires more than just listening so that the phrases go deeper in the memory as a result of a little more effort: and yet in the same amount of time for someone who wants to learn some basic Indonesian quickly. I bought this product 2 years ago and STILL remember the phrases and words I learned. I didn't do anything else that would help me (no traveling to Indonesia, no Indonesian friends, etc). So it's thanks to Pimsleur it stuck.

This is one of the best language learning CD sets I have used, The content is easy to stay with, voices are good (many of these type of discs have nasal, or otherwise annoying people to listen to) I would recommend primsleur to anyone looking to learn Indonesian.

I was speaking Indonesian in my car within two weeks. This is a very good program to learn conversational Indonesian in a short time.

I listened to this while on the plane to Indonesia, and found it to be quite helpful in getting a quick introduction to the language. I would accompany it with a dictionary, and you'd be able to at least exchange a quick conversation with a cab driver. Helpful in feeling not completely lost in a new country.

I've used the Pimsleur method in the past for learning basic German. They use a good pace for learning pronunciation and rythem of a language. You're not going to get any grammar lessons but it's a great start to get the gist of the language.

Simply the best to quickly learn a basic way of communicating in Bahasa Indonesia.
