Okay, truth time. I had no idea what `urban gardening' was. I was leaning heavily in a direction that was in no way correct when I finally read the book. Really amazing ideas and advice about people trying to plant their own little gardens or herbs in the middle of the city. I live in an apartment and I've been trying to figure out something to do with my balcony that didn't involve Christmas lights in any way, shape, or form. Now thanks to this I can choose some of the plant ideas I like best and go from there.

Read the whole book in about 30 minutes (so more like a pamphlet than an actual book). 80 percent of the information was obvious - if you live in an apartment - plant in containers - duh. The level is very basic, which was good in my case, but whatever useful information it contained, such as hardiness of different plants and how to plant and water, was rendered useless by total lack of any accompanying illustrations or diagrams. SO - I am left with a bunch of concepts and Latin names of plants that I'll now have to look up on the internet. Nothing along the lines of planning a garden or ideas for a cohesive balcony or indoor garden was even mentioned. SO - overall - completely useless and pointless.

Mom uses this book to do all her planting and it looks great. We love the detailed insights we get from reading it. Definitely better to go green and plant trees. I love the little glossary on each type of tree and what works best for a flourishing healthy plant.

This book is useful to anyone that wants to to try their hand at gardening. Great information to start small and see how you do, then expand on all the explanations in the book. Personally, I live on 4 acres, but for the last several years I have been doing container gardening...portable, able to move them around to desired amount of light, etc.I actually applied the majority of the same principles to my gardening before I had even read this, but I also learned some reasons as to why some of veggies aren't doing as well as I had hoped. Thanks! Great informative read!
