Thorough and Comprehensive Technical Book,
By KMR (Syracuse NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forced Induction Performance Tuning A Practical Guide to Supercharging and Turbocharging (Hardcover)
I will start right with the major fault I take issue with. The supercharging info is not as well covered as turbocharging topics. There is more discussion, for instance, on turbocharger camshaft characteristics than on supercharger cams. The exhaust lobe design of a supercharger camshaft is not even touched on at all.
That said, there is SO much good information in this book that anyone interested in practical and appliable engine theory should own this book. Much of the content is the same as A.G.B's other book, Four Stroke Performance Tuning, but with massive amounts of information regarding turbochargers, in particular, and a good amount of supercharger info, included in this text to supplement the basics of performance tuning. Forced Induction Tuning is NOT a how-to guide. As another reader said, if you are looking to build your own supercharger kit, buy Corky Bell's supercharger book. This book gives you all the information you need to build a highly tuned and very stout complete forced induction engine package! Corky's book has more on the specifics of supercharger design, belt routing, belt tension, pulley diameter and speed, and lots of design minutea. The bottom line is, if you purchase both the Corky Bell and A.Graham Bell books, you will be well informed to build or modify any forced induction platform you desire.

What can I say except 'brilliant'. I read Bell's other book "Four Stroke Performance" and I loved it alot. When I finally got this one, I couldn't put it down. The best book on turbo and forced induction theory I've read. A must for those who want to learn whatever thay can on the subject.

When I started reading this book I couldn't stop until I finished it couple days after. This is excellent book! In each chapter author goes from fundamental up to highly detailed in-depth information on covered topics. This way you get big amount of information directly from experienced expert and you got feeling like being experienced yourself. This book has only few short real case tuning examples and is not exactly fresh published - only two minuses. Newer the less, I would probably give six stars if there were the option.

This an excellent reference book for anyone who wants to learn about modern concepts of an automotive forced induction. You will find the information you've been looking for about modern forced induction cars either domestic, import or european.Definately recommend this book.

Wealth of information on engine design,

This review is from: Forced Induction Performance Tuning A Practical Guide to Supercharging and Turbocharging (Hardcover)
Forced Induction Performance Tuning is both broad in scope and lengthy in explanation. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to broaden the scope of knowledge they have with regards to engine design.
To be somewhat critical the information does feel slightly dated, but I don't think the author projected beyond the copyright date inaccurately to any significant degree. There are other books that will provide more up to date information within scopes like engine management computers that have changed much in the past decade. This book will provide an excellent basis and background if approaching modern engine management even if it does not detail the latest and greatest in ECU technology. This book, along with the Greg Banish or Jeff Hartman engine management system tuning books creates a knock out punch if you are looking to dive into engine tuning. It is also worth noting that this book repeats much of what you will find in A. Graham Bell's other tuning books. This is certainly the one to buy for turbo or supercharger enthusiasts, and not much will be missed if you skip Four Stroke Performance or Modern Engine Tuning in leu of this book.

greatest book i read,

This review is from: Forced Induction Performance Tuning A Practical Guide to Supercharging and Turbocharging (Hardcover)
This book, along with 4 stroke engine tuning are the best book I read. I even prefered it to Maximum Boost which is suppose to be the hottest book. This author is really good, but you need some basic knowledge to understand him, he goes really deep in details and doesn't give many examples. I highly recommend this book. Read Maximum boost first though if you don't have any knowledge, easier to follow.

I highly recomend you read this book as a place to start to help you decide the path you want to take as well as tuning.
If you want to understand the why and the theory behind forced induction buy this book. Most the other turbo or supercharging books I've flipped through in borders and the like, but your unlikely to find this book on the shelves based on my experience. If you want the 'how to' look at the books by corky bell. If you have a mustang and want a kit some of the other books may suit you. For a true understanding of the subject this is your bible.

Forced induction made easy, but not too easy,

This review is from: Forced Induction Performance Tuning A Practical Guide to Supercharging and Turbocharging (Hardcover)
This a fantastic book and is laid out so if you only have basic knowledge on engines you will understand the content easily. I have picked up so much from this book and it is technical enough to grasp essential knowledge when dealing with forced induction and includes the formulas needed to calculate the factors that make the difference for optimal performance. Many examples of theory are represented by well known vehicles and engines produced in the past. It is not just factual it is interesting to read due to the historical content.
