A very good book on the history, culture, and politics of the sub-continent. It offers a very different and interesting angle on the culture and politics of the region. If you wonder what were the factors that led to the partition, whether it was right or wrong, or what made Muslims to insist on having a country of their own after living with Hindus for centuries then this book answers at least some of the questions.

A must read if you are looking for a balanced review of the events that led Muslim leaders to quit congress when joint Hindu and Muslim struggle for the independence of India was at its peak. It is interesting how last ditch sincere efforts by Mahatama Gandhi to keep India together were rejected by prominent Congress leaders accusing Mahatama of being an old boy, who is out of touch of the realities of the time.

I am glad that my son decided to send this gift to me on Father's day and now I intend to send it to one of my nephews.

Absolutely brilliant. This is an entirely fresh perspective that is corroborated by the author with a plethora of teh most cogent evidence drawn from all eras of Indian history. It is difficult to disagree with the author, and even more difficult, if you do indeed disagree, not to admire him and his work. On a wide range of historical events, developments, and episodes the author brings to bear new insights and brilliant analysis. His entire purpose is also most appreciable as the book is bereft of all the hate literature and analysis that has recently bedeviled Indo-Pak text-books and other writings. With reason and logic he justifies the partition of the sub-continent on a basis other than purely communal. So steeped in history is this work that only the most obstinate on both sides of the divide will refuse to learn and profit from it. Rolibooks is to be congratulated for bringing out an Indian edition of The Indus Saga.
