Great signal-to-noise ratio,

This review is from: Industrial Mathematics: Modeling in Industry, Science and Government (Hardcover)
This is one of the best (if not the best) practical math books out there. It has a no-frills, "let's get down to business" feel and is not overly wordy. The author keeps each chapter short and focused, delivering digestible amounts of theory along with lots of fully worked examples. Unlike many technical authors, MacCluer seems to fully appreciate that real learning occurs by induction. The problems at the end of the chapters are real gems: simply stated, sometimes challenging, and never pointless. This book is evidently intended for senior math students bound for industry, but I also highly recommend it to grad students (like me) as well as practicing engineers.

Chapter 15 of this book presents the most concise and clear guide for technical writing I have read. I strongly recommend it.

Good but not for professionals,

This book gives little form a lot of subjects. Therefore, for quick understanding of industrial mathematics, it may be helpful. However, in most cases, problems can be solved with good unsderstanding of topics, at least theoretical level. This book may be good for beginners, but definitely not for the problem-solvers.
