4.0 out of 5 stars Basic Overview of Instrumentation, June 23, 2002
By
Karen Walker "kasuwa" (Anaheim, CA United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Industrial Pressure, Level & Density Measurement (Resources for Measurement and Control Series) (Hardcover)
For those interested in such things as pressure gauges, transducers, level sensors, etc., I found this to be a good basic textbook-style overview. It describes how these instruments work in a very basic yet thorough way. Other books covering these subjects seem to be well over [price], so I'm confused by the previous reviewer's comments. Also, I didn't notice errors. While I am not an expert, I do have five year's experience in the process instrumentation industry. This book has been a helpful reference for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Self- Study Guide to the Basics of Pressure, Level and Density Measurements, July 10, 2006
This review is from: Industrial Pressure, Level & Density Measurement (Resources for Measurement and Control Series) (Hardcover)
This is a good introductory book to be used as a self-study guide to the Basics of Industrial Applications of Pressure, Level and Density Measurements.

The most common transducers / transmitters and their general operating principles are discussed in this book. This text will proof useful is you are newcomer to the field of instrumentation, or if you are an experienced engineer preparing training materials for technicians and operators at your plant.

No attempt has been made on this book to list or discuss all of the many applications dealing with the measurement of these variables, nor to list manufacturers, specific equipment, specifications, constraints or approximate prices. If you need more in-depth information, or if you specify, install, maintain and operate meters for these and other Process Variables, you might want to consider Bela Liptak's Instruments Engineer's Handbook Volume 1 - Process Measurement and Analysis. I am an industrial practitioner that has been working for the last 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation, Process Safety and Process Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. Bela liptak's book is always on my shelf, and has been useful many times during my career. I also own this book "Industrial Pressure, Level & Density Measurement", and it has been useful to prepare training materials and tutorials.

1.0 out of 5 stars Industrial Pressure, Level and Density Measurement, June 13, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Industrial Pressure, Level & Density Measurement (Resources for Measurement and Control Series) (Hardcover)
This book covers the basics of the subject material however it is repleat with errors. Equations are sometimes incorrect (page 9). The author mixes tense in the same sentence. From an academic standpoint it is probably O.K.. It is obvious that the author has little practical (or field) experience. Considering the price I cannot reccomend this book as there are many other titles that contain a better treatment of the subject matter.
