Lithium Ion batteries are not all made the same. They feature different mAh ratings, some are protected and some are not, some are high quality and meet their specification claims and some don't even come close. These batteries sold by Orbtronic are the top of the line 18650 batteries available. They feature the Panasonic NCR18650A 3100mAh cells that can really provide 3200 mAh of capacity so they exceed their specifications. They are enhanced with a protection circuit board that protects from:

* over current protection - 8 Ampere cut off
* over discharge protection - stops working when the voltage reaches a minimum of 2.5 VDC to protect the battery
* over charge protection - stops charging when it reaches 4.2 VDC
* double short circuit protection
* over heat protection
* A heat resistant layer to make this power cell safer to use

My purchase came to me charged at 3.61 VDC. I charged them with the Xtar WP2 II Smart Charger set at a 1 Ampere charge rate. You can see my video review of that product at this location, just scroll through the reviews until you find my review.

18650 Smart Li-ion Charger and Two 3100mAh PROTECTED Orbtronic (Panasonic NCR18650A cell inside) Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Batteries Kit (NEW Version)

Using a good LI-ion charger is a key to protecting your investment and assuring that the batteries are charged properly and maintained to maximize their life cycle. Here is the charging data for the batteries:

* Starting voltage both at 3.61 VDC
* At one hour they were at 3.91 VDC
* At two hours they we at 4.12 VDC
* At 3 hours they were fully charged at 4.2 VDC

As you can see the batteries quickly charged and they stopped at the specified 4.2 VDC limit. You can tell I have purchased more of these batteries and the charger before and I would not have purchased more if I did not have the utmost confidence in the product and the supplier, Orbtronic.

When I purchased the batteries, they and the other previous order shipped on the same day and I received the product in two days. The service was outstanding and prompt. I had even dropped them an email with a question and they responded within minutes on the weekend.

Before I purchased these batteries I was tempted to buy the cheaper batteries and chargers from other suppliers. I read reviews by people who said they purchased the cheap batteries and they had just thrown their money away as the batteries from the other suppliers were junk. There are even several reviews talking about smoke and even fires coming from cheaper batteries and chargers. It made me investigate these types of batteries on the web. Charged Li-ion batteries can be dangerous. They can explode or catch fire and that is why I purchased the expensive ones with protection built in. The USPS will not even fly Li-ion batteries, iPads, smart phones, Kindles and other electronics that use LI-ion batteries overseas as there have even been reports of fatal cargo airplane crashes due to Li-ion batteries.

I depend on my electronics that use 18650 power cells and I didn't want to have quality issues or potential problems so I brought what I thought was the best available and so far they have proven that they were worth the money. I strongly recommend these batteries from Orbtronic and the battery charger from them is also top notch. Please take the time to look at my video review that I mentioned above.

I recently tested the performance of the Panasonic Industrial 3100 mAh battery to find out how long it would maintain a useful potential difference across its poles during a low-current drain application. The device used for the drain was a Romisen RC-E4 flashlight with an XML T6 LED bulb. (The XML T6 bulb doesn't come standard with this flashlight; it was an upgrade from the original LED.) Throughout the test, the flashlight was switched so that the "low" or "dim" mode of the XML T6 bulb was in use.

As the battery voltage dropped from its initial 4.20V to 3.02V, the light output fell from an initial 48 lumens to about 35 lumens, which is still more than enough to walk around in a dark house or outside on a moonless night. How long did it take this battery, in this flashlight, to make this voltage drop? 72 hours. That's why I like the XML T6 LEDs. Their dim mode is just about perfect.

Test Flashlight: Romisen RC-E4, XML T6 LED.
Low Intensity Setting, 48 lumens.
Battery: Panasonic Industrial 3100 mAh.
Initial 4.20V
10:00 > 3.91V
16:10 > 3.81V
25:40 > 3.65V
30:30 > 3.60V
32:45 > 3.58V
36:00 > 3.56V
41:00 > 3.52V
47:30 > 3.46V
53:15 > 3.38V
57:45 > 3.33V
61:00 > 3.31V
64:09 > 3.29V
67:10 > 3.23V
72:00 > 3.02V
73:15 > 2.97V
75:50 > 2.55V

If you graph the points, you'll see that the Panasonic Industrial 3100 mAh battery begins its voltage versus time downturn at about 68 hours. At 75 hours, the battery is pooped out. I probably shouldn't have kept it going for the final 50 minutes, but the battery recharged OK and didn't seem harmed by its overuse.

These are very high quality batteries at a very reasonable price. Although I believe the Orbtronic brand may be new, these use the high quality Panasonic NCR cells also used by well-respected brands already on the scene.

Although I haven't personally done any real testing on these batteries, I trust they will work very well because of the quality cell inside. They both charged up to 4.19v in a few hours in my Tenergy Li-ion charger and lit up my two flashlights with no problems. There are also some very detailed reviews and tests of these batteries floating around on the web that you can consult if you are unsure about purchasing.

Don't waste your time on the super cheap Li-ions everywhere. The price can be tempting, but they typically perform much worse than quality batteries and may even be dangerous to use.

I'd also like to praise the very fast shipping from ORBTRONIC; They shipped the day after ordering and arrived 2 days later.

I use Vapor4Life's OMG E-Cigarette with the extension ring to support the size of the 18650 battery. I could not be more pleased with this battery. I get more than 24 hours use on a battery. I will not get into a technical discussion of the battery's performance as other reviewers have done that quite well. I have never run the battery down to cut off as I change it out once every morning and it lasts until the next morning. I have used 6 to 7 of the standard E-Cigarette batteries a day with the tank that I use. Not so with this one! 1 battery a day, thats it! I charge it with the JETBeam IntelliCharger i4 Charger - 2nd Generation charger which does a great job of intelligent charging up to 4 batteries. My biggest concern when moving to the 18650 battery was that I did not want one that would blow up in my face. This one with the protection circuits built in makes me feel quite comfortable with no overheating issues at all. For E-Cigarettes, this battery is far superior to other batteries on the market. Truly a 5 star Battery!

Update: 10/21/12 Battery Voltage after 24 hours of usage is 3.52V. Excellent!

These are the best batteries I have ever used. Power is excellent and the hold a charge nicely. Do your research and you will see that there are really only a handful of choices out there for a SAFE - HIGH QUALITY Battery that can feed high power flashlights. This one comes as a top choice on forums everywhere. Do not skimp on your battery source.. get these to feed your light.

Batteries are one of the few things that I will swear by name brand products. I first bought one of the "--fire" branded batteries, and completely got a dud. It's great that Amazon has great customer service so I didn't actually waste money, just time.Getting that cylindrical paperweight made me not afraid to splurge a bit on batteries as it is imperative that I get good performing long lasting juice for my application. Everything has worked great so far with these Panasonic batteries, and I highly recommend you to SKIP the off brands in this case and save yourself some headache.

Orbtronix had my Panasonic 18650's delivered in just two days...just like last time!

My first order was on a Saturday. It arrived Monday in perfect condition. I ordered my next sets of Panasonic 18650's on Wednesday afternoon and the batteries arrived today, Friday morning, again in perfect condition! I couldn't be more pleased with Orbtronix and their batteries. I simply won't shop anywhere for my flashlight needs.

Orbtronix is the ONLY way to go!

I've shown a dozen cops at work (in the parking lot at night) how easily I can put a bright green spot on any tree or object, regardless of distance. Everyone of them are blown away! This laser has remained consistent from day one for producing the baddest %^# beam that keeps all my neighbours local gang of pigeons off our roofs. Lastly, try this killer beam in the fog....trust me. You'll be hooked!

I purchased these to use in Nitecore's Tiny Monster triple-LED 2,000-lumen flashlight (which is awesome, by the way). The TM uses either 8 CR123 lithiums or 4 of the 18650 rechargeables. The CR123 batteries (SureFire brand) were being depleted fairly quickly and it was becoming expensive. Since the flashlight isn't designed to charge batteries itself, I purchased a charger with 2 included Orbtronic/Panasonic 18650s, plus this additional pair of 18650s. I only had one requirement: obtain high quality cells, preferably made in Japan or the U.S. Overall impression: these seem to last forever -- maybe 3 or 4 times as long as the CR123s. Charging is quick and cool, temperature wise (using the Xtar WP2 charger). I'm very satisfied.
