Easy-going and relaxed, yet serious and warm,
By M Flamman (Breda, the Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Industrial Silence (Audio CD)
This is the first (full-lenght) cd of this magnificent band. I first heard "Nightly disease", so I already know that cd a bit better. This first cd is just as good as their second one; the songs of the second cd are maybe even more relaxed, warmer and mature than this songs. But also on this cd you hear what Madrugada makes so good and special: atmosphere, a (sometimes) seventies-sphere, excellent melodies and the very warm deep voice of the singer. Sometimes they sound like 16 Horsepower, and sometimes they sound like Nick Cave, the Doors or even like Cohen. The whole cd long you wonder why they sound just as spheric and warm as other Scandinavian acts like Sigur Ros or Bjork. Madrugada creates a wonderful environment, and they do that with nothing more than conventional instruments, a bit piano and a slice of pedal-steel guitar. Just beautiful!

Best UNKNOWN Band!!!,

A friend of mine turned me on to Madrugada about six months ago. We are both huge Grant Lee Buffalo fans. He told me this CD was comparable in content. I totally agree. I do not know why these guys are not more popular in the states. I definately advise any Grant Lee Buffalo fans to grab this CD. Mmm Mmm good!!!

An amazing collection of songs, reminiscent of Grant Lee Buffalo(Phillips) and Mazzy Star. Not to be missed if you like either of them. This cd compels one to want to see this band perform live. It just seems like it would be special indeed.

This must be the best CD of 2000,
By René (Amsterdam, Netherlands) - See all my reviews

This CD made it into the top 3 of my CD collection instantly. Very very good indeed. Sort of Tindersticks mixed with the Heroes del Silencio and a bit of Ry Cooder. "Vocal" is an absolute classic, together with "Shine" and "This Old House". Shame the band isn't very well known outside Norway because they really deserve it. I just ordered their latest album and from what I have read so far, it's even better than this one

The NEW Nick Cave,
By Willem Moransard (Amsterdam Netherlands) - See all my reviews

Well, upon first hearing this album my mouth fell open...Some songs remind you of Tindersticks, then Sixteen Horspower and then Nick Cave but even so Madrugada maintains their own sound. Songs switch between heart rending melodies and louder songs like Beautyproof (2). Just buy this album if you've ever liked the above mentioned bands and if you ever have a chance to see them perform live don't miss it...

Chillrock,

Fabulous....really: what a voice. Seems to come right from the deep Norwegian fjords, echoing against the rocks.... The rifs are very infectious. Especially Norwegian Hammerworks Corp. Other highlights: Sirens, Strange colour blue, Electric, Salt. Good debute, easy-listening but outstanding quality!

a postcard from northern-norway,

Madrugada has been pick out as the saviors of norwegian rock music, when you listen to this you understand why. With "Industrial Silence" Madrugada have made a melancholic masterpiece with floating vocals guitarplinking and mouth organ. I say Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen and you see where this is heading, but don`t let these references prevent you....when you listen you understand. Madrugada have made one of the best melancholic rock albums the last couple of year. Listen to "Shine", "This Old House", "Electric" and the best track here; "Quite Emotional" and you`ll get impresed. Enjoy.

Maybe we don't know many things about the music scene in Norway. Well know we have to look better. Espesially after this excellent album.Dark, but so bright and inspired. In GREECE we love it.

The BEST Norwegian band ever!,
By Lars Andreas Horvei (Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Industrial Silence (Audio CD)
These guys actually come from a small town close to where I live, and I never heard of them until I saw them on tv. I wasn't that impressed at that time, but when one of my friends told me that he'd been to the concert of his life, i decided I had to check them further out. So I got the whole album on mp3, and, you know what, the nect day I bought the album. I have not regretted for a second. As i usually listen to stuff like the SP or Radiohead, this is not really my style. But all lovers of non-commercial music should at least have listened to thic cd a couple of times, or they will have missed a really great band. Sivert Høyem's voice is just so great, it can keep my mood up during the dark winter to come.
