The Classic Text,
This review is from: Industrial Toxicology (Hardcover)
Amazon.com is a bit confused -- Alice Hamilton, the first women appointed to the Harvard faculty and the grandmother of Environmental and Occupational Medicine in the US is a co-author, not Adrian Hamilton, as the website suggests. I read this book in medical school as an introduction to the field. Even today, this old edition (3rd, (c) 1974) is a classic. It reviews the older literature and gives insight into the working conditions of the early 20th Century America in a way that no other source does. No one alive today can come close to the understanding that Alice Hamilton and Harriet Hardy had for the conditions of their day. The descriptions of the symptoms and exposures carry a vividness seldom seen in present day texts.
