This faucet uses a freeze resistant design; i.e., the actual water shutoff mechanism is at the opposite end from the handle. No faucet is freeze "proof"; e.g., leave a water-filled hose attached and any faucet could freeze solid in cold weather.

Cons:

- None that I'm aware of.

Pros:

- High quality construction using nickle plated brass. The shutoff cartridge is a modern washer-less design, rather than the old style rubber seal that will deteriorate over time. Further, this model does not use packing material around the handle stem as do older faucet designs. Instead, it uses a series of "O" rings and rubber gaskets to prevent leakage. Faucets using packing material to prevent leaks are more difficult to repair, as you have to dig it out in order to remove the stem, and stuff in new packing material during reassembly.

- Easy maintenance. Complete disassembly by unscrewing a couple of nuts, and reassembles just as easily. Even the cap on the anti-siphon port unscrews.

- 1/4 turn from off to full on, similar to a high quality sink faucet. This is a very nice feature!

- Metal handle on this model is stronger than the plastic handles on competing faucets.

- 1/2" copper pipe or 1/2" pipe thread connection. If you sweat a copper pipe or fitting to this faucet, first remove the cartridge mechanism inside the unit, to prevent heat damage. When done, turn the water on for a few seconds to wash out any debris before reassembling the faucet.

- Comes in 8", 10" and 12" lengths. This is the 12" model.

Home Depot sells a similar model B & K faucet (with a plastic handle) called the Quarter Master Frost Free Sillcock. My advice is to buy this one, because metal handles rarely crack. A plastic handle on another brand of sillcock cracked after a few months of use, and I couldn't find a replacement handle.

Summary:

I've used two of these faucets on a house I'm renovating, and they are excellent.

Well made and all metal (except the anti-siphon cap which is fine) unlike the ones sold in the big box stores and even my usually well-stocked local hardware.
