5.0 out of 5 stars Power on par with AC operated compressors
I just received the MV-50, and it is a well-built, compact unit with good convenience features. The heavy duty nylon carrying case and 15 foot hose are a pleasant surprise for a modestly priced unit.

I just received the MV-50, and it is a well-built, compact unit with good convenience features. The heavy duty nylon carrying case and 15 foot hose are a pleasant surprise for a modestly priced unit.

The rated output is 72 litres per mimute, or about 2.5 cubit feet. The delivery pressure isn't stated for that volume. The maximum rated output pressure is 120 PSI. These are ratings on par with a light duty compressor operated from AC wall power. The owner's manual is a bit vague on duty cycle, staing that a cool-down is required after 30 minutes of operation. The MV-50 can inflate a flat car tire in about three to four minutes, so there should be no need to worry about duty cycle for most applications.

Several people remarked they wish the MV-50 came with a cigarette lighter attachment. The MV-50's motor draws up to 30 amps, which would melt the contacts or at least blow the fuse on most lighter sockets. For instance, the 12 volt socket on my Toyota truck is rated and fused for 15 amps.

The MV-50 comes with clips for attaching dierectly to the 12 volt battery to maximimize the current it can draw and to make sure it receives full battery voltage. As rated, the MV-50's motor should develop 3/4 horse power or more. This assures plenty of power for rapid inflation.

Another reviewer remarked about finding the MV-50 for only $25. That was apparently a short-lived sale at Pep Boys, where the wrong model was briefly discounted. I think they meant to discount the normally less expensive MV-30. Even at the typical $69-$70 price, the MV-50 is a good value.

Plusses: Modest cost. Included accessories and carry bag. 12 volt portabilty. Well manufactured. Long hose. Air chuck makes positive connection by screwing to tire's Schraeder valve. Fairly quiet operation. Generous CFM and pressure.

Minuses: Needs direct clip-on to battery. The quick-connect fitting is slightly different than the coupling on most air tools. The air chuck must be screwed on to the tire's Schraeder valve.

Over-all, five stars. I recommend the MV-50 with no regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why there's no cig lighter adapter, June 9, 2006
This review is from: Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow High-Volume Air Compressor (Automotive)
This little machine is capable of pulling so much current, that it would blow most fuses for Cigarette lighters, which is why the adapter isn't included. It needs to be clipped directly to the battery, and is good at filling large truck tires in a couple minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing., January 26, 2006

I bought this compressor with the intent of airing my tires back up after a day of 4-wheeling. For this purpose, it works amazingly. It comes with an awesome carrying case, and everything else you would expect with a portable air compressor...it will air up my tires quickly--the specs state about 4 minutes to air up a 35" tire.

When running, the compressor is pretty quiet and doesn't vibrate and bounce around. The built-in gauge is quite accurate once the unit is turned off.

In short...buy this air compressor if you have ANY use for it at all. It will easily beat compressors which cost over 3 times what this unit does.

I have no idea how well this unit works when operational but at this point I wish I'd never heard of it. You will notice I rated this item one star, however this is more a rating of the company who supports it than the item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable, February 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This product either works or it doesn't for me. I periodically fill up my tires and almost always have an issue whether it is a blown fuse, cable comes off the alligator clamp, or just doesn't want to work. Like today I wanted to fill up four tires and I was able to do 3 with no problem. When I went to turn it on for the 4th tire it just did not come on. I changed the fuse, moved the clamps around... nothing worked. I have also emailed the company in the past with no response. The screw on connector is a pain at times, you have to fill up more air in the tire because you lose a lot of it while unscrewing the connector. Think it is time to find another compressor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Q Industries out of business?, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow High-Volume Air Compressor (Automotive)
When calling for support from the owner's manual on this product, I get a "telephone service is no longer connected" message with no forwarding phone number. Also went to the Q Industries website and checked the number there and it also didn't work. There was no way to get support from the website.

Be very careful here. My battery or charger died after 8 months and there appears to be no way to contact the manufacturer.

Wonder if Amazon will honor a return after 8 months. Probably not.

I thought this was going to be a high quality compressor based on reviews here. The unit worked once, on one tire, then never again. It cost me half the price of the unit to send it back to the company. If they warranty it quickly and refund my shipping money I will change my review, but I will be very surprised if they do. Made in China.
This is probably the last time I buy something like this online.

1.0 out of 5 stars MV50 SuperFlow Compressor, July 6, 2008
This review is from: Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow High-Volume Air Compressor (Automotive)
First of all, Amazon was great and I have no problem with them. On the contrary, they make returns very easy and fair. I purchased this item several weeks ago and it was defective. It would not run at all. These things happen, so a returned it for a replacement of the same unit. The second unit was defective as well. Not recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Super Q Industries Worthless Warranty, February 22, 2012
By
This review is from: Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow High-Volume Air Compressor (Automotive)
I purchased an MV50 Portable Air Compressor on 13 July 2011. I have only used the unit a couple of times and it worked OK on my truck tires. While pumping up a bicycle tire, however, after allowing the proper, stated, cool down period, the unit quit on me. I checked the in-line fuse, after retreiving the green 30 amp fuse that came with the unit (I have never before opened the fuse holder or changed the fuse in the unit), and found that the plastic part of the in-line fuse was melted in the holder. I managed to extract half of the fuse but one of the metal arms was welded into place and broke off so that the holder and, therefore, the compressor was unusable. The melted plastic part of the fuse was red, which means that it was a 10 amp fuse, the instructions said it needed a 30 amp fuse and the unit was therefore sent to me with an incorrect fuse installed in it and explains why it was melted. I bypassd the holder (using the 30 amp fuse in the new line I made) and the unit was still dead. Since the unit was still under warranty, I called the Superflow number in the owners manual and was told by a computer to send an e-mail to Customerservice@qindustries and was then hung up on. There is no other phone number provided. I did this and explained the problem and asked for a return authorization number. I got no response after four days so I sent another e-mail with the request and it is now 18 days later and still no response. I've given up on Q Industries equipment and bought another companies compressor.
Don't waste your money!

3.0 out of 5 stars good pump, nonstandard fiitings makes replacement/repair impossible, March 23, 2009

Edward Kirton (Concord, CA United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Q Industries MV50 SuperFlow High-Volume Air Compressor (Automotive)
PROS: I use this pump to inflate my large truck tires after a day a 4-wheeling in the backcountry. It's a good pump, adequate air flow, will inflate eight 31-33" tires from 10psi to 40psi without overheating, at about 4 min per tire. Will overheat if you try to fill tires on third truck without letting it cool for 5-10 min first. A few friend of mine also use the same pump and are happy with it, it's very popular with offroad enthusiasts and has been extensively reviewed on 4x4 bulletin boards. At this price, it's difficult to go wrong.
CONS: However, after two years of use, the O-ring inside the chuck on the air hose tore and so was rendered inoperable. I have had great difficulty trying to find a replacement o-ring or hose assembly. The nipple and chuck are of a type unlike any of the (several) standards in use here in the USA so you can't simply get a new hose (it won't fit). The nipple thread isn't even 1/4" diameter, so you can't simply replace the nipple to US standards. This means you can't find a replacement hose and the compressor cannot be connected to an air tank if you have one. The solution: drill out hole and use tap+die kit to rethread to 1/4" so I could replace the nipple to an American standard fitting and use a replacement chuck+air hose available anywhere.
BOTTOM LINE: Good compressor which hasn't failed me yet, but the nonstandard air fittings make repair/replacement a pain, one many people will not want to deal with (especially if you don't have a tap+die set already since they are not cheap). If you fit in that category, you'll have to throw away your compressor when your hose fails.
