Book Description

0936340118 978-0936340111 April 1, 2003
  • 10 classic essays with new introductions
  • Foreword by Arthur B. Fox, author of Pittsburgh during the American Civil War, 1860-1865

Some of the most fascinating--and least known--stories of the Civil War unfolded in Western Pennsylvania. This collection of 10 articles, culled from eight decades of Western Pennsylvania History magazine, encompasses a broad and fascinating array of topics: from the local vote in the election of 1860 to Pittsburgh's massive earthen forts; from "Bucktail" soldiers to the Sanitary Fair; from New Castle's response to a postwar soldiers' convention.^
