5.0 out of 5 stars An Indy 500 Book for the Ages, July 20, 2010
By
This review is from: The Indy Five Hundred: An American Institution Under Fire (Hardcover)
Frankly, I'm surprised this book is still available new. When this book came out in 1974 and I was in college it had to have been one of the best books ever written on the subject. Since Mr. Dorson was a trained sociologist he brought an absolutely fresh perspective to motorsport journalism that to be frank with you hasn't been matched since. If you are fan of Indy car racing and especially of this era when the horspower was virtually unlimited and the chassis rules were not "spec driven" and geared for innovation as well as a time when dark clouds were hanging over the sport then this will be a welcome look back and addition to your bookshelf. This book and its subject matter has aged well. You won't be disappointed.
