Excellent "lost" Messiaen, December 12, 2009
This review is from: Inedits (Audio CD)
With the exception of the clarinet piece (faux Mozart which I think is actually quite badly played by the clarinet on this recording) this is an excellent find - both organ pieces are excellent, and the early Vocal duet/Violin/Piano work from 1929 shows Messiaen as a student as an accomplished composer already, despite his youth.
The final choral work is marvellous and extremely accessible if you wanted to play just one piece to a "non-believer" - there's an almost total lack of choral music by Messiaen, and this is a great find - the work itself, according to the sleeve notes, was lost in the Radio France archives from 1945 until 1991, so Messiaen got to see the score again just before he died.
Highly recommended CD.
