This review is from: Inelasticity of Materials: An Engineering Approach and a Practical Guide (Series on Advances in Mathematics for Applied Sciences) (Hardcover)
This book is really well written and very understandable, although it requires that you have a basic knowledge of continuum mechanics and elasticity for some chapters. The authors mention this as a pre-requirement at the beginning of these chapters. The book as it states is offers a very practical approach towards plasticity. The whole book approaches continuum mechanics from a thermodynamics point of view and illustrates by examples and procedure on obtaining evolution equations that are consistent with the laws of thermodynamics. This is the first mechanics book I have read that follows this approach. I have really enjoyed working out this book,I personally think it is a good book to start with to learn about inelasticity in general and plasticity in particular.
I would highly recommend this book if your research interest is plasticity or large deformation theory.

The reason I refrain from giving a 5 star for this book is because the website which the authors talk about throughout the book does not exist!!!

To summarize:
Strong points about this book:
a) Energy Approach, consistent with the laws of thermodynamics.
b) A brief introduction to non-linear dynamics
c) Understandable and clear, with sufficient illustrations and good organization.
d) Practical guide with lot of breadth.
e) Informal language, more like a classroom.

Weak Points
a) Website does not exist
b) Typos exist, although they are not show-stoppers
c) It is not a book that provides depth. However, provides a more than sufficient introduction to topics.
