Given that OM has only laid down five songs in the course of two full-lengths, any new non-album material is a godsend. Fortunately their side of this split is one of their best tracks, starting as perhaps the most uptempo OM song yet before shifting back to their familiar lurching tempo about halfway through. It's only about 8 minutes long but it holds its ground against the best of their extended takes like "At Giza".

Unfortunately your enjoyment of the Current 93 side will probably depend on how much of a David Tibet devotee you are, because there isn't much going on here besides his lyrics. An incredibly repetitive (and increasingly annoying) fuzzy organ(?) line soldiers on practically unchanged for the entire 7:50 duration; any other instrumentation I lost in the morass. It seems as if Tibet was trying to match styles with OM, but his track feels paper-thin compared to OM's ribcage-rattling intensity.

This is still essential of OM fans, but Current 93 fares better on his own records.

"Rays Of The Sun/To The Shrinebuilder" is probably Om's best track - faster than most of the other material featuring Chris Haikus, and with the best riff Al has dreamed up in some time. On the other hand, while Steven Stapleton has made some interesting music, his track here with Current 93 is NOT it. fewer stars have been awarded for that and for the high price - if you can find the Om track for legal download, that's certainly the way to go.

I totally agree with one of the other reviewers that stated that this Om track is their greatest - it's much "faster" and more uptempo than their other work.At well under ten minutes,its almost a "speed metal" song(ha!)by Om's standards!I can listen to it over and over....So good.

The other track,well,blows.I tried on a few occasions to give it a chance.Dont care how "good" the lyrics are,it's just plain annoying!After you hear it a few times,trust me the first few seconds will have you diving for the skip button...

So,consider this essential for the Om addict.All others may well indeed feel short-changed....
