Book Description

WINNER OF THE UTOPYA 2012 CON AWARD FOR BEST DEBUT NOVEL

My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me–my freshman year of college. I’d been hoping that once I’d arrived on Crestwood’s campus, the nightmare that I’ve been having would go away. It hasn’t.
I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I’m grounded…sane. I look for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he’s near, I feel an attraction to him–a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you’re thinking…that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would be…if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I’m the worst thing that has ever happened to Crestwood…or him. But get this, for some reason every time I turn around he’s there, barging into my life.
What is the secret that he’s keeping from me? I’m hoping that it’s anything but what I suspect: that he’s not exactly normal…and neither am I. So, maybe Crestwood won’t be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I’ve been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is…inescapable.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 reasons to buy this book December 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While checking the stats on "Enchantment's" Amazon page, I noticed a new novel in the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" window.

The black and white cover didn't excite me -- I'm a magpie, attracted to bright and sparkly things -- but I was intrigued by the single white feather, as well as the title and decided to check it out. Big mistake.

I'm working on an impossible deadline, but once I started reading "Inescapable" by Amy A. Bartol, the revisions on my own novel came to a grinding halt. Shhh... don't tell my editor.

I could NOT put this book down. Here's a few reasons why...

1. The paranormal element of the story is slowly revealed, ratcheting the tension ever higher, while the plot barrels forward at a thrilling pace.

2. The college campus setting is rich with sensory details without bogging the story down with unnecessary literary description.

3. The main characters are multi-faceted with complex needs and desires that create internal as well as external conflict.

4. The female protagonist, Evie is athletic and strong-willed, but still vulnerable. (I love the fact that she plays field hockey!)

5. The male love interests: Russell and Reed. 'Nuff said. I'm still torn between which of these fascinating men I want Evie to choose. It's too bad she can't have them both! (It's not that kind of book ;-)

6. The sexual tension sizzles, but is not the least bit graphic or gratuitous.

7. The shocking twist near the end that changes everything! I can't wait for the sequel to find out what happens next.

The only thing that bothered me at all, was Russell's accent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Amazing. BLOWN AWAY. December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Okay, I apologize upfront if this is a long winded review, but I have a few things I'd like to say. First off, who is Amy Bartol and why would you or me be interested in what she has written? I didn't find Amy by browsing Amazon or any other ebook vendors, like many fellow indie authors, I found Amy Bartol on Twitter. It was from there that I took an interest in her book.

Let me say that I am BLOWN AWAY by this book. The editing alone in this is magnificent! I looked at it from a reader's view as well as an author's view, and I just cannot believe the amount of work that went into this. I can almost feel the pain of the editing that went into this. The way that Amy has written her book, it honestly flows and flows very well. I was very impressed with her style. Amy takes you by the hand and eases you along with the story, allowing things to develop and for ideas to flourish.

When I first started reading the story, without giving anything away, I thought "oh God...another vampire story," but let me tell you, that isn't the attitude I kept when I read further into the book. I'm not going to tell you what it is about, I will not crush your anthill. This book is going to shock and awe you. There were times when I was overwhelmed with excitement and wanted to blow up her twitter account saying "OMG, this part hits home, and this part, and this part!" But I didn't! And I'm sure she was probably glad for that!

This book is a rather long book, at least compared to the lengths I'll read, but this book has just been constructed and written so well that it almost makes me feel like I should have paid for it twice. The length and overall quality of the book for $2.99--astonishing. There are some parts in the book that I personally felt like "okay...

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging from the start! October 12, 2011
By Jen F.
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Inescapable was a wonderfully engaging adventure. The main character, Evie, was beautifully introduced. She is strong, independent and full of emotion. These themes carry her through Inescapable. The story was full of intrigue and excitement, I was always eager to pick up my Kindle and rejoin Inescapable (The Premonition Series)Having the story take place at the small college, Crestwood, was very much like a walk down memory lane. I think everyone can relate to many of the characters presented throughout the book and the various collegiate scenarios. Very much looking forward to the next book to pick up the adventure!

1.0 out of 5 stars A Pre-Teen-Level Read, At Best May 3, 2012
By cupcake
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm honestly not sure how this book received such high reviews, and am perplexed as to why it wasn't categorized in the "Teen" section.

The dialogue in the book is simple, and seems geared toward a young reader. The slang used was outdated and corny... things like "dis" or "he did me a solid." Then the slang is translated for the reader after it is used - which drove me crazy. ex) Freddie said this, and what he meant by that was this.

The football-playing character, Russell, spoke like he was from the South... in 1930!

Another thing that I did not like, is how the book lingers on details about Evie moving into her dorm room for pages and pages, then jumps right into Russell and Evie practically dating after one small walk together, right after meeting for the first time. Then suddenly Reed is playing a major role in Evie's life, out of nowhere. I would have liked to see those relationships develop a bit more naturally, so I could actually get into the story.

It's not the worst storyline ever, but certainly not the best either (by far). The main drawback is the way it was written and the character dialogue... and lack of character development.

More About the Author

I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I'm writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they're real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I'll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter...and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my "writing uniform" consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. And they smile at my nerdy bookishness whenever I try to explain urban fantasy to them. In short, they get me, so they are perfect and I am blessed.
