Editorial Reviews

Trey Songz has undeniably become one of music's hottest R&B artists thanks to an infinite streak of hit singles - including "Can't Help But Wait," "Successful (Drake & Trey Songz)," "I Invented Sex," "Neighbors Know My Name," and the platinum-certified "Say Aah."

Trey prefaces his fifth studio album, Chapter V, with this 5-song EP entitled Inevitable, and plans to use the knowledge and experience he's gained over the past years to catapult him to yet another level of superstardom.

R&B Has been kinda dead lately. every R&B Act ditching the genre for electro pop. But Trey Songz is bringing it back with this 5 track EP. Great music and great vocals from a truly talented young man. Trey Songz is this generations Marvin.

I am a Trey Songz fan. This sounds like a compilation of 5 songs that were left on the cutting floor. They should have stayed there! Hope a new, complete CD with substance comes out soon.

I never really considered myself to be a Trey Songz "fan", but in recent years, I have definitely found myself listening to his music more and more. He certainly has a flair for "mood music" and this EP is no exception! It does everything that music is supposed to do. These songs make you remember past experiences, and throw your hands up, saying "That's my song!!" It's an excellent body of work in my opinion.

I have all of his songs and it baffles me that he doesn't own more awards. He is one of the best singers we have. Music is really dead but as long as he keeps singing, I will keep listening. Go trey I love your music. R&B all the way forget rap! This cd is filled with make you feel good songs.

Trey Songz became a platinum selling artist in the U.S. following his breakthrough success, 2009's Ready. Ready yielded multiple hits, namely the club banger "Say Aah," a fixture at radio outlets. 2010's Passion, Pain & Pleasure was less of a commercial success, despite a valiant #2 bow with 240,000 sold in its debut week, but yielded a major hit in the club banger "Bottoms Up." Apparently, Songz was not ready to release another full length and wanted to `tide' over fans with an EP entitled Inevitable. Is Inevitable really going to `tide over' hungry fans? No, as all sale figures indicate (dismal); Songz would/is best served releasing his next full length whenever it is ready to be released. That said, Inevitable feels rushed and ultimately unnecessary.

"Top of the World" is a nice addition to Songz's list of songs and proves to easily be the best cut from the five-song set. Vocally, Songz sounds as compelling as ever, though in comparison to "Love Faces," the opener from Passion, Pain & Pleasure, this cut is second-tier. Regardless of quibbles, "Top of the World" features a well-penned, uplifting refrain: "If I could I would bring the whole hood to the top of the world with me..." One issue that is bothersome about this cut is the considerable amount of censorship, making one question should Songz have been so overt in the beginning or should he just issued the explicit edition?
